  1. Telford MP believes NHS bosses have made up their minds on A&Epublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

The Telford MP, Lucy Allan, has called recommendations that Telford lose emergency care and women and children's services "completely incomprehensible" and a "complete betrayal".

She has been speaking to NHS leaders today and says she now believes they have already made up their minds and that the decision is now a "foregone conclusion".

    Lucy Allan

Ms Allan also said it would be wrong to close the newly-opened women and children's unit at the Princess Royal Hospital and move the services to Shrewsbury.

The NHS Future Fit review body has insisted no decision has been made.

  2. A&E report leak upsets local politicianspublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

It's not just the content of the NHS report on A&E services which has upset local politicians - it's the way the news leaked out.

It broke this morning when Gill George from the pressure group Shropshire Defend Our NHS, external spoke on BBC Radio Shropshire to reveal a non-financial appraisal was recommending basing both emergency and women and children's services in Shrewsbury.

The leader of Telford and Wrekin Council and Telford MP Lucy Allan both called the NHS Future Fit group responsible for the report to "come clean" on the proposals.

And Ludlow councillor Tracey Huffer, supporting the move to Shrewsbury, said she was unhappy the NHS didn't announce the news itself.

I am troubled that we had to hear this news through a leak, not directly from the CCG. We need the fullest consultation on these changes. They have huge implications for the future health and wellbeing of people across Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.”

  5. A&E proposals welcomed in Ludlowpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    Andy Giddings
    BBC Shropshire

The report that recommends downgrading Telford's A&E department and moving women and children's services to Shrewsbury has angered people in Telford, but has been welcomed in other parts of the county.

Tracey Huffer, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow East and a practising nurse, said that if there is to be only one full A&E department in the county, it suits people in the south of the county to have it in Shrewsbury.

But Councillor Huffer said she would be worried if planned surgery and treatment moved to Telford, as part of the plan, explaining: "There is no practical public transport between Ludlow and the Princes Royal Hospital."

    Quote Message

The decision recognises the need of rural areas. But it leaves emergency services in the Telford and Wrekin and Bridgnorth areas in something of a limbo."

The news that an NHS report is recommending the closure of Telford's new women and children's unit and leaving the hospital without an emergency care department is getting you talking on our Facebook page., external

The plan would be to base both those services in Shrewsbury instead and Phil Lewis approved, writing: "The choice of Shrewsbury makes geographical sense, especially when Mid Wales is added to the equation."

Sarah Harrison is not impressed though: "I have enough problems getting to the PRH when I am having a major asthma attack. Moving A&E to Shrewsbury means my chances reduce dramatically."

Daniel Jones believes the NHS should reconsider the idea of a new hospital: "Shrewsbury hospital is falling apart and has been for years, if its not to be kept at Telford would it not make sense to knock the two hospitals down, build a super hospital in a fair distance from everyone."

    Ian Perry
    BBC Radio Shropshire

Back in May, BBC Radio Shropshire started an experiment with the help of a farmer from Ellesmere to see if it was possible to bring back the mangel wurzel.

The crop was popular in the 18th Century and we are told that they're best if you pick them young.

So Stephen Jones agreed to dig up a few this morning and I took a bite...  they taste sweet and peppery, but I didn't like them.

The Telford MP, Lucy Allan, says she will be speaking to the man in charge of Shropshire's two clinical commissioning groups this lunchtime, to clarify the future of accident and emergency at the Princess Royal Hospital.

She claimed Telford has the strongest case to keep its emergency department and said that if the newly built women and children's centre closed, as part of the moves, it would be a "complete betrayal of Telford".

    Lucy Allan

Ms Allan also said "I have previously dismissed such rumours a scaremongering" and that she hoped the concerns raised by health campaigners today were just misinformation.

    Quote Message

Since coming to Telford in 2013, this has been my number one priority and is the single issue that matters most to my constituents. It's incomprehensible that Telford should lose a brand new facility for women and children."
