  1. Pressure builds on Town boss Mellonpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 28 September 2016

    Mark Elliott
    Reporter, BBC Shropshire

Micky Mellon has worked hard to forge a bond with Shrewsbury Town's supporters - celebrating with them and consistently crediting their support during the club's League Two promotion campaign and into last season too.

Last night's comments in which he bemoaned some of the "negativity" coming from the Greenhous Meadow crowd and complained that it doesn't do his players "any favours" feels like a watershed moment.

His team have won only six of their 28 home games in League One since promotion and boos have echoed around the Meadow at the end of their last four home games in league and cup.

Fans have long memories and don't take criticism well. The only thing that helps them forget is a winning team.

Mellon needs to find one quickly to extricate himself from a situation that is becoming untenable. Starting with Saturday's huge home game against Swindon.

  5. Mellon bemoans crowd 'negativity' after Town booed at home againpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 28 September 2016

The Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon says the negativity around Greenhous Meadow is hindering his team's efforts after they were booed by their own fans for the fourth successive home game after failing to beat Peterborough.

The game finished 1-1 despite Peterborough having to play half an hour with 10 men after Ryan Tafazolli was sent off.

Ian Black missed the resultant penalty and Shrewsbury have now won only 6 of their 28 home games since promotion to League One last year.

The players, when that negativity comes in, it doesn't do them any favours. Maybe they should look a bit more at the detail and get right around the lads. I understand there's a lot of frustration around."

The trust that runs Shropshire's two main hospitals says training nurses and paramedics to diagnose people in a similar way to junior doctors is not a cost-saving measure.

But SaTH has admitted that the role has been created due to a shortage of junior doctors and because it wants to reduce its reliance on expensive locums.

  19. Police back horse safety campaignpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

West Mercia Police is backing a campaign to improve the safety of horse-riders on the road.

The British Horse Society says that around the country in the last five years, it has received 2,000 reports of incidents involving horses - 181 accidents resulted in the death of the horse and 36 caused the death of the rider.

    Drive safely sign

Importantly, the BHS says 1,521 of the incidents involved vehicles passing the horse too closely and it is urging drivers to slow down, give horses a wide berth and be patient.
