    Workmen have spent most of the day clearing tonnes of rubble found in a country lane near Tibberton this morning.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it will take court action if it can find who was responsible.

  5. Prison service promises new measures to tackle dronespublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    The Prison Service says it is responding to the issue of drones by introducing "new security measures", including regular staff patrols, CCTV and patrol dogs.

    RAF Shawbury said it was concerned one of the drones attempting to drop phones and drugs into the jail could hit one of its aircraft and claimed the drones were flying over on a weekly basis.

    But, the Prison Service said there have only been two drone incidents at Stoke Heath in the last 12 months and said offenders now face two years in prison.

    A Shropshire village cricket club has helped kit out a refugee team in Germany.

    Knockin & Kinnerley CC decided to help out after reading in the county league newsletter about a team in Cologne which had been overwhelmed by refugees from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh all wanting to play the game.

    They managed to gather together four bats, four pairs of pads and gloves, thigh pads and wicket-keeping kit, along with a large kit bag to keep it all in.

  10. Sixth form college told to improvepublished at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Telford's biggest sixth form college has been told it still needs to improve.

    Ofsted inspectors have praised students' behaviour at New College and say most achieve their qualifications, but teaching hasn't improved as much as it should have, since the last inspection two years ago.

  12. RAF issues prison drone warningpublished at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    RAF Shawbury says it's only a matter of time before a drone dropping contraband to inmates at Stoke Heath Prison interferes with one of its helicopters, potentially causing a crash.  

    It says attempts are being made on a weekly basis to use drones to drop drugs and other contraband into the jail, near Market Drayton.

    Jackie Marshall from the Prison Officers Association at Stoke Heath said it was a nationwide problem and that efforts were being made to stop them.

  14. Rubble-crash 'could have been a lot worse'published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    The driver of a car that hit a 12-tonne pile of rubble this morning was unhurt and didn't require and ambulance, but his car has had to be towed away to a garage.

    Soil, bricks and metal were all found on Back Lane, near Tibberton. Telford and Wrekin Council says the road should reopen later today.

    The local authority said the incident could have been a lot worse and promised to try to bring the offender to justice.

  17. Travel: Gas leak causing delays in Ketleypublished at 13:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Motorists are being asked to take care around Holyhead Road in Telford today after a gas leak was discovered. 

    National Grid have had to put up temporary traffic lights at the junction of Holyhead Road and Waterloo Road in Ketley so they can try and fix the problem.

    They say they are going to try and do the work outside of rush hours but it's unlikely top reopen before tomorrow at the earliest.
