  2. Car crashes into 12-tonne pile of rubble 'dumped' on roadpublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    A car has crashed into an 12-tonne pile of rubble which has been dumped on a road near Tibberton.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it appears to have been fly-tipped early this morning and it is now clearing up the mess.

    The authority said it was a "significant crash" and called the person who dumped the waste was "really reckless".

    A reader got in touch through Your Questions section of the BBC website to ask "What public resources are available to aid in genealogical research of families local to Shropshire pre-1600s?"

    Shropshire archives holds the records for the whole county (including Telford) and Shropshire Council said this could be difficult because there are no parish registers before 1538.

    Shropshire Council has produced a series of online guides, external, including one giving advice on how to research early family history and also publishes a physical "family history guide" which lists the different types of records it holds.

    The authority also suggested that the Shropshire Family History Society has a help desk at its archives on Castle Gates in Shrewsbury.

    Tyler Roberts is only 18, but comes highly rated from West Brom.

    Shrewsbury School has been selected by the Hong Kong Education Bureau to build a new primary school in the city, aimed at the ex-pat community.

    Hong Kong has a shortage of international school places, especially at primary level, and this new school will cater for children between the ages of three and 11 and is due to open in 2018. 

    Shrewsbury already has a school in Bangkok.

    Last time around, the relief road plan was planned join the Churncote Roundabout (between A5/A458) with Battlefield Roundabout (to the North East), completing the ring road around Shrewsbury

    There is no suggestion that the next incarnation of the road, if it ever gets built, will follow the same route.

    In 2009, the route attracted opposition from environmental groups, which said the road would destroy valuable habitats north of Shrewsbury.

  10. Public meeting to discuss improving safety for children in Baschurchpublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    People in Baschurch, especially parents, are being asked for feedback, following the introduction of a zebra crossing and other traffic calming measures in the village. 

    There's a public meeting at the Corbet School tonight at 18:30 to discuss how to improve the safety of children on Eyton Lane and Shrewsbury Road.

  12. 'No guarantees' over relief roadpublished at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Shrewsbury's north west relief road looked set to be built in 2009, but plans were put on hold only a year later, because of a spending review at the Department for Transport.

    The project was costed at £100m almost a decade ago.  

    While £1m has been allocated by the government to explore in depth resurrecting the scheme, that is by no means a guarantee it will be built, Shropshire Council says.

    Commuters faced delays on the M54 this morning after a four-vehicle crash. 

    It happened on the M54 eastbound between J3, A41 (Albrighton) and J2, A449 (Wolverhampton).

    The Ambulance service said one man had been trapped in his car, but was freed by ambulance crews. No-one was taken to hospital.

    Shropshire Council has been explaining how it will use government funding of nearly £950,000 to look again at a controversial relief road, north of Shrewsbury.

    A four-mile extension of the outer ring road to the north west of Shrewsbury is estimated to cost well over £100m.

    The proposal to complete the circle of road around the town has been going on for nearly two decades.
