    Local councillors have threatened to seek legal advice to stop it from being built, but the company behind it, Indigo, says it'll have next to no impact on the town's independent shops. 

    The proposals, which also include a new petrol station at Rocks Green, could be approved by a planning committee next month.

    A man who's accused of owning two dogs that killed 34 lambs and injured another 22 is due to appear at Hereford Crown Court today.

    The 64-year-old, from Stanton Lacey near Ludlow, faces charges of allowing his two dogs to be dangerously out of control and worry livestock. 

    He's also charged with having an offensive weapon in a public place.

  7. GP ambulance response team scrappedpublished at 10:09

    A scheme introduced to keep patients out of hospital has ended after just eight weeks.

    Shropshire's Clinical Commissioning Group says it employed two doctors on fixed-term contracts for a year. West Midlands Ambulance Service were paid for a vehicle and technician to act as first responders to medical 999 calls.

    In a meeting yesterday, external the trial, called Physician Response Unit, was discussed after it was scrapped by the ambulance service after raising a number of concerns.

    The scheme was set up to look at how GPs could work with the ambulance service to reduce the number of patients being conveyed to hospital. The scheme was meant to focus on urgent primary care needs rather than a blue light response for an emergency and as such was not as successful as had been hoped."

    Gritters have been out across Shropshire this morning as the West Midlands prepares itself for snow.

    Accident and Emergency units in Shropshire are "incredibly busy", the hospital trust has warned.

    Almost 600 people showed up at the A&E units in Telford and Shrewsbury over the past two days., external

    A total of 596 patients attended the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, with more than 150 of these needing to be admitted into hospital.

    Chief operating officer Debbie Kadum said minor injury units might result in shorter waits for many patients, unless they're suffering serious and life-threatening injuries.

  17. 'It was like the good old days' - when Shropshire froze at -26Cpublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2017

    Yesterday was 35 years to the day since Edgmond, near Newport set a new record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in England at -26C.

    We posted the video on the BBC Midlands Today Facebook page which has been shared more than 3,000 times.

    Icicles were longer than 4ft when the weather was 23C in Shropshire in 1982

    Imagine what carnage would ensue if that weather struck now?

  18. Club receives £7K grant for youth cyclingpublished at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2017

    Newport Cycling Club is celebrating after receiving a grant of almost £8,000 from Sport England, external to support its junior coaching programme.

    The club posts, external: "The funding will support the purchase of new equipment for Bike Club, which provides coaching and development for local cyclists aged 5-16. Hundreds of young cyclists have now benefited from Bike Club, gaining confidence, learning to ride safely and improve their technique on two wheels. Many go on to more advanced coaching and even competitive riding."

    The money will also be spent on additional training for new and existing coaches so it can continue introductory training for adults and women-only Breeze rides.
