    The hospital trust is failing to meet national targets in treating patients referred within 18 weeks in Neurology and Orthopaedics and has confirmed it's unlikely to do so by the end of March this year. 

    It says it's looking at options, including working with larger hospitals, but is keen to stress that the priority is to maintain the service locally.

    Neurology treatment at Shropshire's two main hospitals is "unsustainable" in its present form, according to the trust that runs them. 

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust says it's struggling to recruit enough speciality consultants to treat the number of patients being referred.

    The admission was made at a board meeting of the Telford Clinical Commissioning Group by the Chief Operating Officer for SATH Debbie Kadum. 

    She said the Trust only had two specialist consultants, when it needed four to cope with the demand for the service.

    Parents in part of Telford have started an action group over fears that Muxton School buses could be cancelled, and its catchment areas changed. 

    Telford and Wrekin Council's looking at several catchment areas because of a number of new housing developments in the borough. It wants to make sure there are enough school places in each area to meet demand. 

    Parents and children are meeting after school at Muxton Primary School later today to protest against the plans.

    Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski has secured a debate in Westminster today to look at the future of Shropshire's hospitals.

    The Future Fit programme has been tasked with reorganising services betweeen hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford, including A&E, maternity care and acute surgery.

    The location of an enhanced emergency centre has proved particularly divisive - the Future Fit team highlighted Shrewsbury as the preferred base.

    Telford's Clinical Commissioning Group, alongside Shropshire CCG, have commissioned an independent review of proposals to downgrade the A&E at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.

    The Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst feels his under-18 players are being short-changed by Sunderland for tonight's FA Youth Cup tie in the north east. 

    The game's not being played at the Premier League club's stadium - but down the road at Eppleton Colliery. Hopefully, says Hurst, the Town juniors can still rise to the occasion.

  13. Telford police officer sacked for 'gross misconduct'published at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    West Mercia Police says, external it has sacked an officer for gross misconduct.

    According to the force, PC Steven Ward - who had been with the force a year and most recently based in Telford - was dismissed with immediate effect following a misconduct hearing on Monday.

    The hearing was into allegations that he had altered the statement of a complainant regarding domestic violence and forged their signature.

    DS Gary Watson said the "behaviour" of PC Ward had fallen below expected standards, breaching the required levels of "honesty and integrity".

    Shrewsbury Town's Toto Nsiala's red card against Swindon on Saturday has been withdrawn. 

    The club appealed against the defender's suspension after viewing video footage of the incident.

    On her visit to Shrewsbury's £60m waste incinerator at Battlefield, Princess Anne was taken to the control room to be shown how they move rubbish around with the use of a giant claw.

    The company operating the facility, Veolia, says approximately 90,000 tonnes of waste from Shropshire per year is treated at the facility and it produces enough power for 10,000 homes.

    The Princess Royal was also asked to unveil a plaque to mark the official opening of the incinerator in a marquee lit by chandeliers.

  18. NHS funding for new medical practice still possiblepublished at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    NHS England says it's still possible funding could be found for a new medical practice in Shifnal.

    Last week, the community group Shifnal Forward said it was told by Shropshire's Clinical Commissioning Group that it was unlikely any practice in the county would receive money and that alternative funding was needed.

    But NHS England has now said the application for a new-build surgery is "moving forward to the next stage" and that "the application will now be subject to a series of detailed checks before a final decision is taken".
