West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said it reversed its decision to sack a community first responder after holding a meeting to "give her the chance to detail her views on what happened".

Effie Cadwallader from Oswestry was dismissed for shredding patient documents - an act which WMAS said broke trust procedures and the Data Protection Act.

The ambulance service said it decided "the value of her services to the community outweighs the circumstances of what happened".

The Queen officially opened Shropshire Council's Shirehall headquarters in Shrewsbury 50 years ago today.

The architects designed the buildings around a number of mature trees and the curved outside of the council chamber is finished in Portland stone.

Paying tribute, architect Ralph Crowe's son John said: "It must be hoped that the qualities of this well specified, designed, built and adaptable municipal building are well enough recognised to see it through the next 50 years at least."

On the BBC's Sunday Politics programme this weekend, we'll be asking whether Shropshire would be better off having just one unitary authority.

The leaders of both Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council have so far resisted the idea, but the MP for North Shropshire, Owen Paterson, says it the move could save £20m a year.

Mr Paterson has written to the Communities Secretary, the Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid, arguing that "the continuance of Telford and Wrekin Council is inefficient and has led to unnecessary duplication".

He wants Mr Javid to order a cost benefit analysis of what savings might would accrue from merging the two neighbouring unitaries.

A light aircraft's made an emergency landing in a field near Ellesmere.

The plane came down near Kenwick at around 14:00 and eight fire vehicles turned out, along with the ambulance and police. 

The pilot walked free, suffering only from shock.

Telford Tigers wrap up the regular season at home to Milton Keynes Lightning on Sunday, wanting a win against their one-time title rivals.

The Tigers are also looking to maintain their 15-game winning run, which stretches back to January and enter the end-of-season play-offs in good form.

The Severn Valley Railway has got its three-day Steam Gala under way today, with a number of guest locomotives visiting.

As well as all the usual activity, there will be goods trains and brake vans running up and down the tracks and up to 10 different locomotives in action.

A Telford lorry driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, in connection with a fatal crash in Essex a year ago.

A Nissan Note and an HGV collided on the M25 at Waltham Abbey on 29 March 2016 and a 34-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, died in hospital from her injuries a few days later. Another passenger in the car was injured.

Anthony Cheshire, who is 62 and from Reynards Coppice in Sutton Hill, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A 32-year-old woman from south east London faces the same charges and is also charged with causing death by careless driving while with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

Both are due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on 12 April.
