    Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has made a film about dyslexia, external , offering support for those who have it and assessments for those who think they might have it.

    It says more than 70 of its 500 employees in the county have received help over the past nine years and that the ratio of employees with dyslexia is relatively high for a public sector organisation.

    The fire service says staff with dyslexia are given extra time for exams and help when applying for promotion.

  2. Football: AFC Telford United to resume selling sharespublished at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2017

    AFC Telford United expect to put shares back on sale by the end of next week.

    And potential investors will now be able to purchase more than 20% of the shares after a motion was passed to scrap the upper limit.

    The club said 32% of the shares were bought when they went on sale last year, with 139 supporters taking up the offer.

    But two potential investors were put off, because of the limit on the maximum number of shares they could own.

    Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Shaun Rowley has joined Slough on loan. 

    He's been drafted in to provide cover for goalie Mark Scott who fractured his neck playing for Slough last weekend.

    Shropshire Council and three other authorities have been at the High Court, arguing a "massive funding deficit" had put local councils at risk of breaching legal duties they owe to vulnerable people who could be deprived of their liberty.

    It includes those with dementia and learning difficulties.

    The four councils, Shropshire, Nottinghamshire, Liverpool and Richmond, claim the government's failure to provide adequate funding has created "a national crisis" for local authorities.

    The Local Government Association has said at least an extra £172m a year is needed nationwide.

    Events have been held this week at Church Stretton's Health and Wellbeing Centre to support people who've had a stroke and those who care for them. 

    The Stroke Support Group has also been offering advice - to help recognise the signs and symptoms.

    Shrewsbury Town have only won three times at Vale Park in the last 40 years and travel there tonight, knowing defeat could drag them right back into the relegation battle.

    Shrewsbury currently have a five-point cushion between themselves and Port Vale, who are in 21st place.

    The coach company National Express is coming under fire, for discrepancies in the cost of tickets in mid-Wales. 

    Some passengers in Newtown and Welshpool have had to fork out £80 for a return trip to London, when others, getting on the same service, back in Aberystwyth, were paying only £35.

    National Express says its prices are set according to demand and although it has since reduced its "lowest available fare" from Newtown to London to match the price from Aberystwyth, it isn't cutting fares from Welshpool.

    A blue plaque has been put up in Ludlow, to indicate the location of an influential magazine company.  

    The building on King Street, was home to the offices of Newsfield, which published some of the first computer game reviews.

    A Shropshire woman's been chosen to captain the England over-35s ladies tennis team at the Four Nations Championships in Glasgow, next month.  

    Holly Mowling, who lives in Broseley, is a coach at the Bridgnorth Club - and has won four national titles within the last 12 months on the ITF over-35s circuit.

    She is now ranked number one for her age group in Great Britain and 13th in the world.

    The police are treating as unexplained the death of a woman in her 50s, whose body was found in the River Severn, on Wednesday afternoon. 

    The discovery was made near the Half Moon Pub, in Jackfield. Her identity hasn't been disclosed.

    Police have issued a new appeal for information to try and find a Shrewsbury man who's been missing for a year. 

    Russell Blent, 36, was last seen in the Meole Brace area and West Mercia Police confirmed that his disappearance was being treated as "suspicious" in August last year.

    In the days before he disappeared he was seen in Bridgnorth, on public transport and on Otley Road. 

    He's white, 6ft 1" has a heavy build and short dark hair.

  15. Volunteer hopes to return to role as Community First Responder published at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2017

    A volunteer ambulance service worker from St Martins, near Oswestry, who was dismissed after an issue about paperwork, is hoping she'll be allowed to return to her role as a Community First Responder. 

    Effie Cadwallader says when ambulance crews wouldn't take a patient's report-forms with them, she shredded them to keep them secure.

    The ambulance service said she'd broken the Data Protection Act.

    "Patient Report Forms describe the treatment received by a patient and as such could be requested by a coroner or other court," a spokesperson said.

    "Mrs Cadwallader had previously been reminded of the procedures to be followed for any documentation that may remain with a Community First Responder.  

    "As such the Trust was left with no option but to take the deeply regrettable decision to terminate her agreement."

    A woman's body's been pulled out of the River Severn in Jackfield, 

    She is believed to have been in her 50s - police are treating her death as unexplained.

    Her body was recovered near the Half Moon pub at about 12:30 yesterday, officers said, after a call from a member of the public.
