  3. Football: Marsden believes Telford have enough to beat the drop published at 15:53 British Summer Time 27 March 2017

    AFC Telford United's new loan signing John Marsden says he believes the team can avoid relegation, despite a run of four consecutive defeats in the league.

    It's a return to the county for the striker, who made two starts for Shrewsbury Town, before breaking his foot in 2014 and leaving to join Southport.

    Marsden went out on loan to Stockport last season, but has found games hard to come by this season, so he sees the move to Telford as a chance to revive his career.

    After six months of traffic cones, lane restrictions and overnight closures, the work on junction four of the M54 is due to finish next Friday.

    Telford and Wrekin Council has been making changes to the lanes and work designed to make it easier for pedestrians to get from Shifnal to Priorslee.

    It's part of a wider project costing over £5m and the council says it's necessary, because it believes there will be increased traffic in the future, with more homes and businesses being built there.

    Firefighters from five fire stations have been dealing with a barn fire at Ratlinghope this morning.

    A baling machine and 15 bales of straw were alight in the single-storey barn and it took two and a half hours to put out.

    The Bowmen of Caradoc, external made more than £1,000 for Breast Cancer Care at the weekend by shooting arrows at live targets - thankfully they were dressed in full armour and the arrows were blunt.

    Work on power lines at Shrewsbury's Emstrey Roundabout will mean an overnight closure next month.

    Western Power Distribution will be replacing 33,000 volt overhead lines and replacing some of them with underground cables.

    This will mean the temporary closure of all roads approaching Emstrey roundabout, including the A5 between Preston roundabout and the A458 (Weeping Cross roundabout), the B4380 Thieves Lane, London Road at Emstrey, and the B4380 Emstrey Bank between 00:00 and 07:00 on 23 April.

    A 48-year-old man from Telford is in hospital with serious stab wounds and a 30-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an incident at a flat in Dawley this morning.

    Police were called to Terrace Lodge on King Street at 01:30 and are searching the property for forensic evidence.

    They say they believe the victim and the suspect were known to each other.

    Whittington Castle, external has offered parents free parking, to ease congestion around Whittington School.

    The police say people living nearby have been finding drives and footpaths blocked by vehicles at drop-off and pick-up times.

  14. Two men killed in A525 crash namedpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 27 March 2017

    Police have released the names of two men killed on the A525 in north Shropshire last Tuesday.

    They were 67-year-old Walter Dobrowolski from Ellerdine, who had been riding a motorcycle and 79-year-old Roy Bundy from Chester, who had been on foot.

    An inquest into their deaths will open tomorrow.

    AFC Telford United's fourth league defeat in succession has left them in relegation trouble, with just three points separating them from the National North drop zone.

    But their next two games are against teams below them in the table, Stalybridge Celtic and Worcester City, and Telford manager Rob Smith said this was their "biggest week for many a year".

    Severn Hospice is looking for volunteers to help look after its gardens this summer. 

    Both the Shrewsbury and Telford sites have won Royal Horticultural Society awards for their greenery.

    The hospice says the volunteers don't need a high level of expertise, just the willingness to give up their time and be happy to brave the British weather throughout the year.

    The former cabinet minister and businessman Lord Heseltine says his instincts for a deal were honed at Shrewsbury School. 

    He told the Telegraph he used to buy bottles of lemonade from the post office and sell glasses to the school's sports teams at what he calls a "significant profit".

    The Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst thinks his team will do enough to avoid relegation from League One if they can reproduce the commitment they showed against Bolton on Saturday.

    The Town lost 2-0 and are now just one place and one point above the drop zone.

    But Hurst said their first half performance against one of the best teams in the league showed they can stay up.
