    A wildlife charity is asking for help spotting animals including shrew, deer and weasels in Shropshire. 

    The People's Trust for Endangered Species needs volunteers to carry out its annual Living With Mammals survey over the next three months.

    It involves recording numbers of the animals over at least an eight-week period from your local park, woodland, or garden.

  2. Ice hockey: Tigers look for play-off victorypublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    The Telford Tigers are looking to win the English Premier League play-offs for the second time in three years, when they travel to Coventry this weekend.

    They play Basingstoke Bison in their semi-final match tomorrow and if they win that, it will be either Milton Keynes or Guildford in the final on Sunday.

    The chief executive of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust says a lot of visitors don't "know the cultural significance" of Coalbrookdale.

    Anna Brennand was speaking as they reopened a revamped Museum of Iron to educate people about the area's central role in the industrial revolution - part of a £15m project to update the museums in the Ironbridge gorge.

    Ms Brennand described Coalbrookdale as the "historic heart" of the gorge and said the furnaces were where it "all began".

    The Ironbridge Gorge Museums have taken a number of artefacts out of storage and rearranged their exhibits at the Museum of Iron to display them all.

    The next stage of their £15m revamp will be to create a new cafe in the long warehouse, the building between the Museum of Iron and the Coalbrookdale furnace.

    And Enginuity is also going to get brought up to date, with new technology.

    The Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police has defended a £1m spend on body cameras for its officers., external

    From today the force has started rolling out use of the technology with 46 officers in Malvern equipped with them. 

    The force aims to have all front line officers using them by the end of the year.

    A lollipop lady's retiring this morning after more than four decades helping children cross roads in Telford.

    Jan Warren has been patrolling outside Wrockwardine Wood Infant School since 1974.

    Three senior officers have been suspended from the Shropshire branch of Unison over allegations of financial irregularities. 

    Branch secretary Alan James, vice chair Karen Scardifeld and Treasurer Janice Louch were told they were being suspended on 16 March. Those close to them say they deny any wrongdoing.

    The action was taken last month but has only just been brought to light.

    Unison has confirmed there's an ongoing investigation but wouldn't be drawn further. It's not known how long that will last. 

    The branch is a local government one and Shropshire Council says it's not involved. 

  9. West Mercia Police start use of body-worn cameraspublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    West Mercia Police are set to introduce body-worn cameras for officers from today. 

    Other forces across the country, including Staffordshire, have been using them for some time.

    Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) John Campion says 46 officers in Malvern are being equipped with the technology, with  plans to roll out to all front-line officers and staff by the end of the year.  , external

    The PCC says more than £1m has been invested in the technology, which has been shown to reduce complaints, prevent crimes and provide evidence.

  10. American Football: New season gets under way this weekendpublished at 10:08 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    The Shropshire Revolution start their new season away to the Lincolnshire Bombers on Sunday.

    They'll be up against some familiar opponents like Staffordshire Surge and Chester Romans in the British American Football, external League's NFC 2 South.

    There are 67 teams competing in 12 divisions this season and the Revolution have made big changes to their squad, with 30 new players coming in.

  11. On-loan striker could miss rest of seasonpublished at 09:52 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Shrewsbury Town's on-loan striker Tyler Roberts could miss the rest of the season.

    He's impressed since joining on loan from West Bromwich Albion. After scoring four goals in 13 appearances it comes as a big blow to the side's fight against relegation.

  12. World heritage site opens revamped museumpublished at 08:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    The Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust has completed the restoration of the Museum of Iron.

    It's part of their £15m masterplan to update some exhibits, carry out further conservation work and attract more visitors. It comes as the Trust celebrates its 50th anniversary.

    The museum opens on Saturday and features many artworks made in Coalbrookdale.

    Two hedgehogs rescued in Staffordshire have been released in a wood on the outskirts of Telford as part of a bid to boost numbers.

    According to figures from Shropshire Wildlife Trust, the West Midlands has seen a 70% drop in numbers compared with last year.

    Shropshire's fire service has condemned those who burned eight cars on an estate in Telford in the last three weeks. 

    The same arsonists are suspected of being behind a series of recent wheelie bin fires.

    With just five games to go, Town are in the relegation zone and two points from safety.
