An 18-year-old from Shrewsbury is trying to raise £2,500 to buy a prosthetic leg and swimsuit, so she can take her niece and nephew swimming when they go on holiday.

Timmy Peart has a genetic condition known as vascular type Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which causes her to have fragile blood vessels and intestines and has had dozens of operations, one of them to amputate a leg,

She also has a permanent drip to administer drugs.

She is going on holiday to Turkey next year and says she really wants to swim and go up the ladder to the water slide, but she can’t do that without a lightweight false leg and swimsuit to protect her drip line.

She is being supported by a surgeon at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Mark Cheetham, who has set up a Just Giving page for her., external

The AFC Telford United manager Rob Edwards says he won't be setting any targets for his team this season, saying football is too unpredictable.

But he is promising the fans hard work and hopefully some exciting football.

An Italian man who saved the life of a 10-year-old girl had to choose between rescuing her or her father, an inquest has been told.

Simon Pearson (pictured below), his daughter Lily and his father-in-law Tony McGregor, all got caught up in strong currents while swimming at a beach in the Puglia region of Italy last month.

Two local men went into the sea to help them.

The court was read a statement from the girl's mother, Emma Pearson, which explained one of the Italians, Martino Maggi, drowned in the attempt.

The other, known as Ibrahim, was faced with a choice because he couldn't save both Mr Pearson and his daughter.

She said her husband had been able to keep Lily above the water until help arrived and she survived, but Mr Pearson drowned, despite efforts to resuscitate him on the beach later.

A farm building containing 30 tonnes of straw and three vehicles caught light at a farm near Ludlow this lunchtime.

Firefighters were called to Steventon Road at 11:14 and took about an hour to put it out.

The wife of Simon Pearson, from Old Church Stoke, who drowned saving his daughter's life, said the family weren't expecting the strong currents which claimed his life.

In a statement read out at his inquest in Shrewsbury yesterday, Emma Pearson said her family had been visiting for 15 years the beach in Italy where he died and thought the red flags they saw that day meant "exercise caution", not "stay out of the water".

She also described how her father, husband and 10-year-old daughter all got caught up in strong currents after going out for a swim and couldn't get back to the shore.

Mr Pearson and a local man who went in to try to rescue them both drowned, but her father and daughter were both saved.

She said her daughter told her that Mr Pearson's final words were "hold my hand".

Slow Food England has announced it will be coming to the town the day before the annual Ludlow Food Festival.

The aim of the Slow Food movement is to promote small-scale farming, fair pay for farmers and an emphasis on tasty food.

The new manager of AFC Telford United, Rob Edwards, takes charge for his first league match tomorrow.

They travel to York and he's been talking about his pride at leading the team which he used to support as a boy.

The chairman of the Oswestry Show has praised the hard work volunteers put in to make the event happen.

The one-day agricultural show takes place at the Oswestry showground tomorrow and Nigel Whittingham said "the effort that is put in is exceptional" and that the volunteers' enthusism shone through.

Mr Whittingham also said the event helped connect people in the towns and the countryside and revealed his favourite attraction is the sheep shearing.

The Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has wished the new manager of AFC Telford United good luck ahead of the start of the new season.

He described Rob Edwards as a "good guy" who is "very well thought of at Wolves".

And Hurst went on to say that he'd like all local clubs to do well because it was good for interest in football in the area.

“Hold my hand,” were the last words of a Shropshire father as he desperately tried to rescue his daughter, external as they got into difficulty in the sea while on holiday.

A coroner has concluded that the death of a Shropshire managing director who drowned while trying to rescue his daughter from the sea while on holiday in southern Italy was an accident.

Simon Pearson from Old Church Stoke in Powys went into the water after his 10-year-old daughter got into trouble off the coast of Ostuni in Puglia.

She was rescued, but coroner John Ellery accepted the conclusion of the Italian police that Mr Pearson drowned, along with a local man who went to help.
