    Government officials from Nigeria say they are keen to work with Telford College of Arts and Technology (TCAT) after being impressed by its "state-of-the-art" facilities.

    It follows a fact-finding visit by a delegation, led by Captain Idris Wada, former governor of Kogi State and a member of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum.

    He said the courses on offer at TCAT "are ones that Nigeria, and indeed Africa, can benefit from".

    The Centre for African Entrepreneurship and Leadership, part of the University of Wolverhampton, arranged the two-day visit.

    Shrewsbury Town have sold goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler to Blackburn Rovers.

    The clubs haven't revealed how much he cost, but he's signed a two-year deal at the fellow League One club.

    The Canadian international made 141 appearances for Shrewsbury and broke the club record for the most clean sheets in a season.

  5. Deer dies after getting trapped in ditchpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    A deer has died after getting trapped in a ditch near Cleobury Mortimer last night.

    The fire service were called at 22:41 to reports it was was in distress at the bottom of the 7ft (2m) hole, which contained water.

    When they arrived they found the animal was dead and was being removed by the landowner.

  6. Blists Hill to feature in TV sweets documentarypublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Blists Hill Victorian town is going to be on the TV tonight, in a documentary about the history of sweet making.

    It features four modern confectioners attempting to follow old recipes, using ingredients and tools available to the original sweet-makers.

  7. Cricket: Shropshire draw rain-hit Devon matchpublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Shropshire and Devon had to settle for a draw in their rain-hit minor counties match at Sandford.

    The two captains eventually agreed to call the game off at 17:30, once Devon had wiped out their first innings deficit of 74, for the loss of only two wickets.

    Shropshire had looked in trouble at 62-7 in their first innings, but a half century from wicket keeper Simon Gregory helped steady the ship.

    The county’s final Championship match of the season is against Wiltshire at Bridgnorth, starting on Sunday.

  8. Musicians from across the world attend orchestra camppublished at 10:00 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Young musicians are coming from as far afield as Kenya, Croatia, and Switzerland to perform in south Shropshire.

    They're taking part in the Bedstone International Summer Youth Orchestra Camp at Moor Park School near Ludlow over the next two weeks.

    Research by the Royal Albert Hall says the price of music lessons is making them "inaccessible" for children.

    The organisers of this camp say they go to lengths to make bursaries available to students who need them.

  9. Owner to be sentenced over lamb deathspublished at 08:45 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    A dog owner is due to be sentenced later after he admitted allowing his two animals to kill and injure dozens of lambs on a Herefordshire farm.

    Charles Ross-Robertson, from Stanton Lacy, pleaded guilty to owning the dogs which killed the sheep, valued at more than £25,000, in Risbury last September.

    He's due to be sentenced at Hereford Magistrates Court today.

    He's contesting an order for the destruction of the dogs.

  14. Police commissioner attacks fire service 'hatchet job'published at 17:39 British Summer Time 1 August 2017

    A critical fire service report which questions the idea of a merger between the bodies overseeing the police and the fire service is contradictory, rushed and ignores key issues - according to the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.

    John Campion said "there was absolutely no need for this report to be completed within such a short time frame" and dismissed the report as a "hatchet job".

    And Mr Campion repeated his assertion that his merger proposals are "not about politics, personalities, personal reward, empire building or empire protecting".

    An A-Z map of Oswestry has been created to introduce visitors to local characters and places.

    A range of 26 postcards has been produced in the town with each letter corresponding to a different attraction - for instance W is for the war poet Wilfred Owen and I is for the Iron Age hill fort.

    The map is on sale at a number of shops in the town.

  17. Fire authority report criticises merger planspublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 1 August 2017

    Plans to merge the authorities that run Shropshire's police and fire services have been criticised by consultants brought in by the county's fire authority.

    Their report questions claims the move would save £4m and says it could lead to a loss of accountability and transparency.

    The consultants have studied the initial business plan put forward by West Mercia's Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, which is out for consultation.

  19. Two taken to hospital after crash involving tractorpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 1 August 2017

    Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving two cars and a tractor near Atcham last night.

    One of the injured pair, a man in his 20s, had to be cut free from his car.

    He was suffering injuries to his leg, chest, back and neck.
