    An NHS group set up to review hospital services in Shropshire is going to meet behind closed doors to consider two reports today.

    The first will be a report on the possible impact of changes to women and children's services in the county, which could result in services being moved between Shrewsbury and Telford.

    The Future Fit team will also look at an independent report by KPMG which examines the progress so far on plans to reorganise services in Shrewsbury and Telford.

    It was commissioned after questions were raised by polticians and health commissioners about the way the Future Fit panel had reached its conclusions.

  3. More Shrewsbury roadworks to startpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    Shropshire Council says it's talking to business owners about their concerns over the proximity of major roadworks in Shrewsbury.

    Work to improve the English Bridge Gyratory will start on 1 August and is expected to last three months, external.

    Meole Brace Island was redeveloped earlier this year and the Reabrook roundabout (pictured above) was finished on Saturday - nearly a month later than originally planned.

  4. Shropshire soliders at Passchendaele rememberedpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    At 03.50 on 31 July 1917, the Third Battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, began when 2,000 Allied guns opened up on German lines.

    By the end of the three-month-long campaign, more than 500,000 men from both sides are thought to have been injured or killed.

    Soldiers from the King's Shropshire Light Infantry were among the thousands who died.

    A private meeting will be held today to discuss the future of Shropshire's hospitals.

    For several years health bosses in the county have been trying to decide what services should be provided at which hospital to make them fit for the future.

    West Mercia Deputy Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman said she was riding with Sgt Laura Douglas to remember colleague PC Richard Gray.

    The Shrewsbury-based policeman was shot dead in May 2007, attempting to arrest a gunman holding two fellow officers hostage.

  9. West Mercia Police in charity ride for fallen colleaguespublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    More than 30 West Mercia Police officers and staff have cycled almost 200 miles in remembrance of colleagues who have died on duty.

    The riders, who set off on Friday, finished at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Sunday ahead of an annual service of remembrance.

    Money raised from the ride will go towards supporting victims' families.

    Police are at the scene and slow traffic is reported in the area.

  11. Body found in search for missing James Corfieldpublished at 08:39 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    Police have confirmed that a body has been found during the search for a member of Chirbury and Marton young farmers group.

    James Corfield, 19, went missing during the Royal Welsh Show in Powys and hasn't been seen since he left the White Horse Pub in Builth Wells in the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

    Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed a body was found in Builth Wells on Sunday afternoon.

    The body hasn't been formally identified. Mr Corfield's family has been informed of the development.
