  3. Pokemon Go! doesn't lead to big increase in crimepublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    It's been a year since the launch of Nintendo's Pokemon Go! game for smartphones, but fears it could place children in danger appear to be unfounded.

    When it first appeared, there were warnings that the app, which encourages players to hunt the real world for virtual beasts, could lead them into danger or that criminals could take advantage of it.

    But West Mercia Police only recorded seven crimes involving Pokemon Go! in the 12 months since last July and some of those crimes involved the original card-based game.

    The Shrewsbury Ark homeless charity is asking for help after running "very low" on food supplies.

    It says it desperately needs a number of basic items, including sugar, coffee, tinned meals and cooking oil.

  7. Corfield family 'utterly devastated' over losspublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    The family of James Corfield have said they are "utterly devastated" after learning a body found in the River Wye on Sunday is his.

    They described him as "very much a farming family guy" and added "farming was his life, and he loved his animals with a passion".

    The 19 year old was last seen at the Royal Welsh Show. Going there, according to the family, was "a real highlight for him" and he went every year.

    He was also recently awarded the Shropshire Division 2 Cricketer of the Year award - something of which, the family said, he was incredibly proud.

  8. Body confirmed as missing James Corfieldpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    A body found in the search for a man who went missing during the Royal Welsh Show has been identified as James Corfield.

    Mr Corfield, 19, had not been seen since he left the White Horse pub in Builth Wells in the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

    His body was found in the River Wye, Builth Wells, on Sunday afternoon.

    In a statement, his family said: "We will miss James with all our hearts, and are utterly devastated."

    AFC Telford United have announced the signing of goalkeeper Sheridan Martinez and midfielder Will Marsh.

    Martinez spent pre-season on trial with the club, while Marsh has come from the Liverpool academy and has had spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Chester.

    The New Saints have decided to stick with interim manager Scott Ruscoe and give him the job on a permanent basis.

    His assistant Steve Evans will also be retained, as TNS prepare for the start of the new Welsh Premier season on 11 August.

    The pair stepped up from coaching roles after the departure of long-serving boss Craig Harrison to Hartlepool.

    Their competitive debuts came in the Champions League qualifiers, as they saw the Saints to victory over Europa FC from Gibraltar, before losing to the Croatian double winners HNK Rijeka.

    Firefighters are dealing with a fire in a Dutch barn near Claverley which broke out at 13:40.

    They say about 30 tonnes of hay is burning.

    Just seven balls were bowled, before the players had to leave the field because of the rain.

    The start of play has been delayed by wet weather in the minor counties game between Shropshire and Devon, but the umpires are planning to get the players out again at 14:15.

    Devon will be resuming on 30-2 and if the light remains good, play could be extended until 19:30.

    Members of the League of Friends say they're worried that healthcare in Shropshire is "constantly under review".

    The issue will be raised at a town council meeting tonight.

    A Bridgnorth restoration company has got a challenge on its hands as it attempts to rebuild a rare E-Type Jaguar, which was delivered in pieces from France.

    Classic Motor Cars estimates it will cost about £200,000 to return it to its original state, but it could sell for twice that amount.

    The car was built in 1961 and was being stored in a garage in the outskirts of Paris after a previous attempt to restore it was abandoned.

    A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a collision on the A489 near Lydham yesterday.

    Police say the crash happened at 12:15 between Bishop's Castle and Craven Arms and also involved a Skoda Fabia.

    The man on the bike, aged in his 40s, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with injuries to his spine and pelvis.

    The driver of the Skoda, in his 70s, was treated for shock.

  19. New group to run Whitchurch GP practicepublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    The group running the Claypit Street medical practice, in Whitchurch, has pulled out, saying it was struggling to recruit new GPs.

    Shropdoc, which also runs an out-of-hours medical advice line in the county, opened the practice in November to take on patients affected by the closure of the Richmond House practice.

    The Claypit Street surgery will now be run by the Bridgewater Family Medical Practice and the Dodington Surgery until March 2018, while attempts are made to find a long-term solution.
