    More than 70,000 people are expected to head to Staffordshire today for this weekend's V Festival., external

    The event takes place over two sites - one in Essex and the other at Weston Park near Weston-under-Lizard.

    Superstars including Pink, Jay Z, Ellie Goulding, Craig David and Madness are all performing.

    Highways England says it's expecting long queues on surrounding routes including the M6 as people head for the site.

    Shropshire's Clinical Commissioning Group could come out of special measures this year, NHS England has said.

    The CCG has been struggling to control its finances and a new accountable officer was brought in to turn things around.

    An NHS England report that went before the health commissioning body yesterday said it had seen "positive progress" being made.

    A-level students in the Shropshire Council area have had "what promises to be another highly successful year" the authority has said this afternoon.

    Results were collected at schools and colleges this morning, with Telford and Wrekin Council saying its schools had seen the overall pass-rate increase.

  8. Contrasting water levels on two Shropshire riverspublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    Dave Throup from the Environment Agency has pointed out a strange situation in Shropshire this afternoon.

    Because of all the rain we've been having the agency has had to issue a flood alert for the area where the rivers Severn and Vyrnwy meet - but at the same time the top of the River Teme is dry.

    Mr Throup explained that while the sources of the Severn and Vyrnwy in Wales had been getting plenty of rain, the source of the Teme, on the English border, has largely dodged the showers.

    He said it's not unusual for the Teme, which has a small catchment area, to dry up and he was out last month rescuing stranded fish there.

    England women's rugby coach Matt Ferguson has tipped Ludlow's Lark Davies, external to be a star of the future.

    The 22-year-old has three caps for her country and is part of the RFU's Elite Player Scheme, but missed out on selection for the World Cup squad.

    Matt is from Ludlow himself and said he was honoured to present Lark, who plays for Worcester Valkyries, with her first cap in 2015.

  10. Broseley baby's story highlights importance of transfer servicepublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    Eight-month-old Arlo Watson, from Broseley, has been transferred eight times by Birmingham Children's Hospital since he was born and his story is being used to highlight the importance of their transport service.

    He was born four months early, weighing just 755g (1.6lbs) and his condition was critical on a number of occasions.

    The hospital's charity is trying to raise £2m to equip four ambulances capable of safely shuttling around critically ill children and Arlo's face is on all their posters.

    The money raised through the Critical Journeys Appeal will also fund improvements to the call centre which operates the service.

  12. Football: Hurst warns fans to be cautious after dream startpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst is warning fans not to get carried away, despite their perfect start to the League One season.

    They've collected six points through victories over Northampton and Wimbledon, but Hurst says they've got some tough games over the next few weeks, against teams expected to challenge for promotion.

    The Severn Mile Swim takes place again this weekend, with 155 people registered to take part.

    The course will take them from The Quarry to Kingsland Bridge in Shrewsbury.

  14. Telford road resurfacing on schedulepublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    Work to re-lay part of Castlefields Way in Telford is on schedule to finish on 1 September, Telford and Wrekin Council has said.

    It is affecting a stretch between the Castlefields Roundabout to just past Southall Road and it was started after inspections uncovered cracks in the surface and damage beneath it.

    An eight-month-old boy from Broseley is the face of a new appeal to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

    It wants £2m to kit out four Critical Care Ambulances.

    Arlo Watson was born four months early and is one of more than 2,000 critically ill children relying on the transfers every year.

  17. Telford to celebrate 50th anniversary with painted rockspublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 17 August 2017

    People in Telford are being encouraged to decorate stones and hide them in public places, as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the town next year.

    Telford and Wrekin Council have borrowed the idea from the Shropshire Rocks Facebook group and are calling it Telford Rocks.

    The New Saints have drawn Livingston at home in the Irn Bru Cup - the first time they've had a home draw in the competition.

    It started including the top teams from Wales and Northern Ireland last season and TNS reached the semi-final stage, beating Livingston in the quarter finals.
