    White ribbon day?

    What's that?

It's a way of highlighting the  International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, external.

    How did it get going?

In 1991, a handful of men in Canada decided they had a responsibility to urge men to speak out against violence against women. They decided that wearing a white ribbon would be a symbol of men's opposition to men's violence against women.

There are now White Ribbon Campaigns operating in many countries around the world.

That news has prompted listeners to get in touch and praise his unique style; they love his authority and the occasional mischief and leg-pulling he's well-known for.

Mr Horrobin insisted he got in touch but once a deadline had been missed no-one would listen to his explanation.
