    Thousands of people have been signing a petition, external to prevent Sheffield Central Library from being moved to make way for a five-star hotel. We brought news of the plan earlier this week.

    As part of the scheme the library would be found a new home somewhere in the city centre.

    I'm at a council meeting in Doncaster where councillors have been discussing fears that at least 20 community pharmacies in the town may have to close because of government budget cuts.

    Lats month the Department of Health said it wanted to reduce the £2.8bn-a-year pharmacy bill by more than £200m over the next two years.  

    Councillors in Doncaster have just voted unanimously to approve a motion which opposes cuts to community pharmacy services.

    Two men have been remanded in custody on drugs charges after houses were searched in Sheffield on Monday.

    Sajid Hussain, 34, from Burngreave is charged with possession with intent to supply and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 22 December.

    Also facing the same charge is 37-year-old Abid Hussain from Burngreave. He is due to appear in court on 23 December.  

    Police say around 15kg of suspected Class A drugs were recovered from the warrants, as well as cash, firearms, and a mechanical press, which is believed to have been used in drugs production.

    A festive fundraising effort is being staged by Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity.

    People are being encouraged to get in the spirit , externalby doing events with an elf theme to bring in funds.

    The charity helps to improve the hospital environment as well as paying for £250,000 of research each year into the prevention and cure of childhood illnesses.

    Former Barnsley defender Paul Futcher has died at the age of 60.

    He started his career with Chester before moving to Luton with twin brother Ron in 1974.

    The ex-England Under-21 international became the most expensive defender in English football when he moved to Manchester City for £350,000 in 1978.

    He spent six seasons with Barnsley before three with Grimsby Town, helping them win promotion to the second tier.

    Auditions for the TV show Britain's Got Talent are coming to Barnsley.

    The event is next week and Barnsley College performing arts students have formed a dance troupe to try to impress the judges.

    They only found out a few weeks ago that the auditions are being held at the college's Old Mill Lane Campus next Tuesday, and quickly put together the troupe.

    The outlook for family finances is a "grim picture" with little respite from measures announced in the Autumn Statement, a think tank has said.

    The biggest losers between now and 2020 are lower income families, with the poorest third likely to see incomes drop, the Resolution Foundation said.

    That could mean the squeeze on living standards could be worse during this Parliament than between 2010 and 2015.

    Treasury documents confirm the poorest and the very richest will be hit.

    Eleven people have contacted police since Andy Woodward -- who played for Sheffield United -- told a newspaper that he'd been abused by a coach at Crewe Alexandra who was jailed in the late 90s.
