    When Paulette Edwards’ parents travelled from Jamaica to set up home in Sheffield more than 50 years ago, they did so "to come to a better life", she says.

    A woman hit by a car after attempting to stop the driver from stealing £120 worth of fuel said she will continue to tackle shoplifters.

    Michelle Carr, a cashier at a Barnsley petrol station, was thrown on to the bonnet in the hit-and-run and suffered bruising to her back, shoulder and leg.

    Ms Carr says she did not expect the car to hit her when she tried to stop the driver from fleeing without paying for fuel.

    She said she had always been "the type of person" who confronted shoplifters and would continue to do so.

    Now police want to hear from anyone who was there at about 13.10 on Sunday 4 December, when a silver Mazda pulled into the Jet petrol station on Park Road, Worsbrough Common.

    The driver of the Mazda is reported to have filled canisters with petrol, then began to leave without paying.

    A female member of staff is believed to have gone onto the forecourt and was involved in a hit-and-run with the Mazda.

    It was once a Christmas institution, transporting families across the country to see Santa in magical rides. 

    Now an appeal's been launched to find the "lost sleighs" of the Co-op and the company and staff who worked on them.

    There was one in Sheffield, Coventry, London, York, Belfast, Dalston and Ashton-under-Lyne.

    Police have arrested three men, all aged 19, from Ilford, Rugby and Sheerness, on suspicion of endangering the safety of an aircraft.  

    The men have been arrested in relation to a report of trespassing at the airport, made to police on Sunday 20 November.  

    They're being questioned by specialist officers.

    It comes as the extra lane opens on the hard shoulder of the M1 between junctions 34 to 35a.

    It's all part of the new smart motorway scheme which is aimed at easing scenes like this:

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a reported assault in October.

    At about 01:50 on Sunday 30 October, two women aged 18 and 21 were dragged by their hair and assaulted in Aslan’s takeaway, West Street, Sheffield, by an unknown woman (pictured).

    The woman's been described as white, with short brown hair and is believed to have been wearing a purple dress.

    Do you know who she is? Contact police on 101 quoting incident number 227.

    'Merry Christmas from Hatfield Main' was released at the end of November. 

    Some of the singers involved are former miners from the Hatfield pit.

    Three-time squash world champion Nick Matthew has claimed his first title in 18 months with success in the British Grand Prix.

    The 36-year-old world number four from Sheffield beat James Willstrop 11-7 12-10 11-4.
