    Rotherham United have released a statement, external confirming they have recruited someone to fill their Head of Recruitment role.

    However, they won't reveal who it is.

    The club say it's because the person is still employed by another football club and is serving his notice period.

    Well, Sheffield has one.

    A leading property website looked into the impact on house prices in areas which have attracted new generations of creative, upwardly-mobile people.

    Some neighbourhoods have become more "gentrified" as younger generations of home buyers have found themselves priced out of the areas nearby.

    This is calculation of the average property prices since 2011 and the average property price in 2016.

    Prices on Eccleshall Road in Sheffield have gone up by 25 percent, putting it sixth in the national top 10 of hipster hotspots.

    Almost 4,000 people have signed a petition , externalto save Sheffield's last dementia care home which is expected to close next March.

    Hurlfield View, which provides respite care and emergency admissions, was told by NHS bossess that they can't afford to carry on running it.

    Sheffield council say they're confident they can provide alternative care.

    There'll be an all-Yorkshire final at the British Grand Prix squash this evening.

    Sheffield's Nick Matthew - below on the left - won his semi-final in Manchester yesterday, as did James Willstrop from Pontefract.

    There's an intense rivalry between the pair, who've met in plenty of finals over the years including at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

    Car home Hurlfield View which provides emergency admissions, carer respite and day care places will shut in March next year.

    The respite home should have been safe until 2018 but NHS bosses who run it have now told Sheffield council they can't afford to carry on until then.

    The council says they are confident they can provide alternative care.

    61,000 people died of dementia in the UK last year.

    If you're heading out of South Yorkshire today, there's severe delays on the M1 going southbound because of a jack-knifed lorry between junctions 28 and 27.

    Three lanes have been closed and there's heavy traffic backing up to junction 29 at Chesterfield.

  10. Burglar jailed for nine years after targeting vulnerable peoplepublished at 11:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    A burglar who targeted elderly and vulnerable people across Sheffield has been jailed for nine years.

    Michael Anthony Vincent Brooke, 49, pleaded guilty to 16 counts of burglary, external, two counts of attempted burglary and one count of going equipped.

    The victims, the eldest of whom was a 98-year-old woman, all reported that Brooke used various ruses to gain access to their homes, including pretending to be a council worker and a police officer.

    Once inside their property, Brooke would find a way to be left alone and steal money from his victims before leaving. It is thought he has stolen around £5,000.

    Earlier this year, Brooke tried to enter a house in Brick Street, Sheffield. The resident, a 90-year-old woman, challenged Brooke who was using fake police ID.

    Research by the BBC has found children as young as 12 have been arrested in Yorkshire for drink driving in the last five years.

    More than 300 children have been detained for being over the limit in the area since 2010.

    It comes as police forces across the region launch their annual Christmas drink drive campaigns:

    Sheffield indie rock band Milburn have announced they're to play their biggest headline gig ever next June.

    With support from Reverend and the Makers and Manchester band CABBAGE, Milburn will play at the Don Valley Bowl on the June 2, 2017.

    South Yorkshire holiday makers could soon get a train to Leeds-Bradford Airport after it was announced it was in line for its own railway station under new plans released by Leeds City Council.

    A new report out today says that there should be more emphasis on British values to help bind communities together.

    The report, authored by Dame Louise Casey, suggests that people seeking UK citizenship could be required to take an "oath of integration" on arrival in the country.

    Sheffield is mentioned in this report.

    The council estimated that around 6,000 Roma and other Eastern European people now reside in Sheffield, predominantly in the Page Hall area of the city.

    Former miners from the Hatfield pit near Doncaster are hoping they could be in with a shot at the Christmas Number One slot.

    Their single Merry Christmas From Hatfield Main was released at the end of November and any funds raised will go towards communities who are struggling in what the singers are calling "foodbank Britain".

    A Sheffield care home has been placed in special measures after an inspection has branded it inadequate and unsafe., external

    The Beechy Knoll care home on Richmond Road, Sheffield, scored the lowest rating possible during the inspection in August.

    The report, published by the Care Quality Commission, says that residents were not supported by enough staff on a regular basis.

    Some of the failings include there being not enough staff to deliver a safe quality of care and staff training being out of date.

    The report also says the service was not caring and the people who use the service were not always treated with dignity.

    Rotherham United's caretaker manager Paul Warne had to fight back tears in an emotional interview after his first game in charge ended in defeat.

    They lost 2-1 at Burton leaving the Millers 13 points adrift of safety in the Championship.

    A container carrying aid donations from Sheffield is on its way to Syria.

    A number of churches and mosques gave items like clothes, shoes and medical supplies.

    The container left Sheffield on Friday night and will arrive in Turkey before eventually making its way to Aleppo.

    Adool Kadir Gooljar is urging people to help.
