  13. England’s second FA football hub opens at Sheffield sports centrepublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    Oli Constable

The second Parklife grassroots football hub opened on Saturday, months after the first hub also opened in Sheffield.

New facilities at St George’s Park Thorncliffe, in High Green, are part of the FA’s scheme to address poor facilities in grassroots football through investment in pitches, facilities and participation programmes.

Earlier this year, England boss Gareth Southgate opened the country’s first Parklife site opened at Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre in the south of the city.

Construction has also begun on the third national football hub at Westfield, in the south east of Sheffield.

    Quote Message

With hubs opening across the city we now have top class facilities at grassroots level and this will make a huge difference in our local communities, allowing all those who want to play with the opportunities to do so."

    Oli Constable

Faster speed limits beside motorway roadworks are being trialled to beat delays while routes are improved and repaired.

The rules preventing drivers going faster than 50mph near works could be scrapped if safety is not compromised during the test.

Highways England is currently trialling a 60mph limit near upgrades on the M1 near Rotherham.

Depending on the weather, tomorrow could also see the hard shoulder opened between junction 34 and junction 35a.
