A 17-year-old boy appears in court charged with murdering a man who died in hospital nine days after being assaulted in a Sheffield street.

A man who was stabbed at a house in Doncaster last month has died in hospital.

The 26-year-old had been in a critical condition after the attack on Surrey Street in Balby on the 15 November.

Jonathan Swift, 49, from Seaforth in Liverpool has been charged with attempted murder and criminal damage by detectives investigating the incident.

He appeared at Doncaster Magistrates' Court last month.

A man from Ranmoor in Sheffield will miss Christmas with his family after part of his car was stolen. 

Mike Smith was called by the police this morning after they thought his car had been involved in an accident. 

Instead, he had just had part of his brand new Vauxhall stolen:

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Ahmed Sayeed Adan in Sheffield last month.

The 40-year-old was attacked outside the Emin Supermarket on Spital Hill in the early hours of 20 November.

He died in hospital nine days later.

Today the teenager appeared at Sheffield Youth Court and was remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court next month.

A 19-year-old man remains on police bail in connection with the investigation.

Doncaster's "tent city" was being dismantled this afternoon.

It's after the borough council obtained a court order to take back the land by the old Civic Theatre on Waterdale.

Doncaster Council say everyone on the site has been offered accommodation and the authority's chief executive, Jo Miller, says the camp has "served its purpose".

The family of Tommy Groome have given their reaction after his killer was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court in a statement:

"Tommy was a much loved Dad, son, brother, grandad and uncle. We love and miss him so much. He was a larger than life character who loved to travel and sing on the karaoke.

“On the 1st January 2010 we said goodbye to him not knowing that this was the last time that we would see and speak to him.

“Throughout the last five years, we have hoped and prayed that Tommy was still alive but our worst fears became a reality when we were told that Tommy had been killed.

“However, his body has still not been found. We are devastated that we have been unable to lay him to rest in a place where we can visit and remember him and give him the funeral that he deserves.

“We would like to thank everyone who has been involved or assisted in the investigation into the disappearance of Tommy. This includes the Police in Ireland, Portugal and South Yorkshire. Without them, we would never have known what happened to Tommy.”

Prosecutors say "greed and revenge" was the reason for the murder of Doncaster man Tommy Groome.

Jason Thaxter, 39, was found guilty of the 53-year-old's murder at Sheffield Crown Court today.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Mark Langan said Thaxter and his mother June Buttle, who was Tommy Groome's partner, wove a "tangled web of lies and deception" to cover up the murder.

He added in a statement: 

BBL action continues across the BBC this evening as Sheffield Sharks welcome Leeds Force to the English Institute of Sport.

Both Yorkshire sides sit towards the bottom end of the table in the British Basketball League, with the Sharks in sixth and Force in tenth.

A man from Hexthorpe has been found guilty of murdering his mother's partner six years ago.

Jason Thaxter, 39, was convicted of murder and conspiracy to prevent a burial at Sheffield Crown Court .

Thaxter's mother, June Buttle from Doncaster, is currently serving 16 years in prison after admitting Tommy Groome's manslaughter last year.

She also admitted charges of conspiracy to prevent a burial and fraud against Tommy Groome's estate.

Thaxter has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Monday.

Pupils at a Sheffield primary school have collected more than 20 bags of litter.

Children at Shortbrook Primary School cleaned up their Westfield neighbourhood as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s “Love Where You Live”.

They have also had a competition to design a poster which will be put on the city's litter bins, which was won by 11-year-old Ruby Graham Burke:

Doncaster Council's Chief Executive Jo Miller has been speaking to me about the town's "tent city".

The authority has been given a court order to take back the land on Waterdale where the site has been operating for the past month.

The council boss says she feels "the job has been done".

Of the 80 people at the site, Jo Miller says half have been housed and the other half were either not homeless or refused offers of help.

She added that she hopes the site will not move to another location as help is available from authorities.

A body found in the River Don on Tuesday has been confirmed as missing Rotherham man Daniel Higgs.

The 32-year-old was reported missing last month.

His family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist police officers.

A meat and potato pie has "returned safely from space", the organisers of the stunt have said.

The organisers behind Doncaster's so-called "tent city" have been given until tomorrow morning to shut it down.

Doncaster Council has been granted a court order to take back the land by the old Civic Theatre on Waterdale which has housed the homeless camp for the past month.

The authority has told organisers it will not take enforcement action until 10:00 tomorrow.

Organiser Philip Hartley has praised Doncaster Council's efforts to house the homeless and said those left on the site have refused help from authorities.

However he did point out that the council was refused an injunction stopping the site moving saying that those left had a "legal right" to move the tents somewhere else.

A new campaign has been launched in Sheffield to protect vulnerable people from rogue traders.

Sheffield Trading Standards estimates more than 600 residents are being targeted by scam mail.

It says at least half those victims lose more than £50 to fraud, while 5% lose more than £5,000.

The "Not Born Yesterday" campaign brings together the city council, police and charities.

Doncaster Council has been granted a possession order to take back land being used as a tent city to house the homeless.

The site on land by the Old Civic Theatre in Waterdale has been used by campaigners since last month.

Doncaster Council told Doncaster County Court they did not intend to apply for costs from the campaigners.

However, the court decided not to grant the authority an injunction preventing the camp from moving to other sites in the town centre.

A CCTV image has been released after an alleged sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl travelling on a bus in Doncaster.

The girl was on an 87 bus from the Frenchgate Interchange going towards Stainforth on Saturday 15 October, when a man sat behind her started stroking her hair.

Police want to speak to the man in the image below who they believe was on the same bus.
