    South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner has announced funding for voluntary groups in the county.

    Dr Alan Billings has given £30,000 to nine organisations in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

    The groups funded are:

    • Hope for Justice in Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield is awarded £1,200 to provide three training sessions to highlight the signs of human trafficking.
    • Brathey Trust in Barnsley has been given £3,280 to educate teenagers about child sexual exploitation.
    • Barnsley Beacon Support have been given £3,095 to fund an arts project helping families of drug and alcohol users tackle isolation.
    • Jenga in Barnsley has been given £300 to provide supplies for young people to become nail technicians.
    • Changing Lives in Doncaster has been given £4,800 to continue their project helping sex workers.
    • Golddigger Trust in Rotherham and Sheffield have been given £5,000 to help educate young people about child sexual exploitation, domestic abuse and e-safety.
    • MESH in Sheffield are being given £5,000 to help them tackle anti-social behaviour.
    • Three Consulting Ltd is being given £4,977 to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Woodthorpe area of Sheffield.
    • Sheffield Recovery Community has also been given funding of £2,350 to help run the boxing gym set up by local boxer Reagan Denton.

    It's the time of year for children across South Yorkshire to melt our hearts with their Christmas carols.

    But this venue is a bit different than a school or village hall.

    I've been down to a Christmas party with a difference.

    Sheffield woman Gloria Stewart is cooking lunch for more than 400 people - fortunately not on her own!

    She's hosting a Christmas lunch at Niagra Police Social Club in Hillsborough for those who will be on their own on the big day.  

    Gloria's hosted the event ever since she lost her mum on Christmas day in 1991, as she wanted a happy occasion to remember her.

  9. Rotherham taxi drivers lose appeal bidpublished at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

    A group of Rotherham taxi drivers have lost an appeal against new rules that require them to install a taxi camera in their vehicles. 

     The eight drivers lodged the appeal at Sheffield Magistrates Court after Rotherham Council introduced the policy in July. 

    The new rules affect 700 vehicles in Rotherham.

    The court heard claims from the drivers that the cameras were too expensive, and the camera specification was too complicated. 

    The district judge dismissed the appeal stating he was "not satisfied" the drivers had made the case that the condition requiring them to install a taxi camera was unreasonable, adding that the drivers' case appeared "confused and contradictory". 

    The eight drivers have been ordered to pay costs of £525 each.

    Firms compete in dragon boats at Lakeside in July to raise money for charity.

    Now the totals are in and the event raised £15,420 for charities which will be shared out by the Doncaster Rotary Club.

    The planning is already underway for next year's event on the 15 July.

    New stonework has been unveiled at St Paul's Place in Sheffield.

    The new office development in the city centre will be home to Handelsbanken and ARUP.

    The artwork has been inspired by Sheffield's hidden rivers.

    Artist Richard Perry also made the bronze sculpture of Thomas Boulsover in Tudor Square.

    A Doncaster MP is due to meet the transport secretary later to discuss the future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

    Caroline Flint will sit down with Chris Grayling to talk about our regional airport which sits in her Don Valley constituency.

    It comes after the airport unveiled ambitious expansion plans yesterday.

    The airport is calling for a station on the East Coast Main Line which could allow it to have 25 million passengers a year by 2037.

    That's as big as Manchester Airport is now.

  17. Barnsley to consider 'residents only' permits for tipspublished at 10:01 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

    Barnsley Council is considering introducing "residents only" permits for its tips.

    The authority says restricted opening hours and closures in Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham mean more people are travelling to Barnsley to dispose of their rubbish.

    The council has discovered the problem after people were asked for ID when going to the dump.

    Councillors are due to decide whether to go ahead with the plans later today.

  18. Unemployment falls in Yorkshire and the Humberpublished at 09:44

    Fewer people are out of work in Yorkshire and the Humber.

    New figures show that unemployment in the region fell by 15,000 between August and October to 144,000.  

    Nationally, the jobless total stands at 1.62 million after a reduction of 16,000 in the quarter to October - that's a 10-year low.

    Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey has launched a new Labour campaign to end rough sleeping.

    The Shadow Housing Secretary is calling for an end to people sleeping in doorways and on park benches.

    Labour says the number of rough sleepers has doubled since 2010.

    Ministers say government funding for homelessness over the next four years has been increased to £139m.
