    Sheffield NHS surgeon Ghazala Ahmad-Mear is planning to walk 60 miles through the South Pole in January 2018. 

    Her campaign StepByStep is part of a 600-mile expedition called the South Pole Energy Challenge.

    It is being led by Robert Swan, the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles.

    Mrs Ahmad-Mear has to raise more than £60,000 ahead of her trip where she will face temperatures of -20C and blizzards. 

    The walk is the first to be powered by renewable energy using technology from NASA.

    A new campaign has been launched to encourage mums-to-be in Doncaster to quit smoking.

    The "Quit for You, Quit for Two" campaign from health trust RDASH is emphasising how much money pregnant women can save by giving up.

    Smoking in Pregnancy Advisors estimate that someone who smokes 20 cigarettes per day can save £392 in seven weeks.

  5. Police investigate Magna bomb hoaxpublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    Police have launched an investigation into a bomb hoax at Magna.

    Hundreds of people were evacuated and roads were shut for several hours on Tuesday.

    The bomb squad were called out and the package was discovered to be a hoax.

    A Sheffield woman who has been missing since Tuesday has been found.

    59 year old Carol Worthington has been found in Kent.

  7. Sheffield Eagles to move to Wakefieldpublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club will have to play some matches in Wakefield next year.

    The club has been without a permanent home since the 2013 demolition of the Don Valley Stadium. 

    The move to Wakefield is subject to approval by the sport's governing body.

    The club had hoped to eventually move into the Olympic Legacy Park in Attercliffe but Mr Aston said delays are damaging the club's ability to attract investors.

    Sheffield City Council said the club had been told the pitch at the Olympic Park would be available for most of their 2017 games.

    Do you remember "Bare Legs Brian" from Greenhill in Sheffield?

    He got his legs out by wearing shorts for a year in order to raise money to fight motor neurone disease.

    Now he's doing it again - with the help of some Sheffield tartan:

    You'll have to pay £1 to look under his kilt though - all money raised goes to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, external.

    Police believe the 59-year-old may now be in Scarborough.

    The Sheffield Sharks are preparing for tomorrow's basketball derby against Leeds at the English Institute of Sport. 

    For the first time you'll be able to see the game on the BBC.

    I spoke to Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons about the new deal and the Yorkshire derby:

    Point guard Jordan Davis is back after an ankle injury and new signing Kellen Thornton will make his debut.

    A man has been airlifted to hospital, external after a collision involving a lorry and a van on a South Yorkshire motorway.

    The man's injuries have been described by South Yorkshire Police as 'potentially serious'.

    Sheffield Council's Head of Place Simon Green, who is responsible for the Streets Ahead contract, is moving on.

    He is taking up a new post at North Lincolnshire Council.

    Simon Green played a key role in the controversial felling of trees in Sheffield.

  16. South Yorkshire Police issues statement on historical football abusepublished at 11:07 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    South Yorkshire Police has issued a statement after a meeting revealed the force is investigating three cases.

    The incidents are said to have happened in the 1960s and 1980s but the clubs involved haven't been named.

  17. Eight arrests after Rotherham police operationpublished at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    Eight people have been arrested on separate offences after a day of action by police in Rotherham.

    Operation Duxford lasted for 18 hours and saw several police operations linked with education and community awareness campaigns.

    South Yorkshire Police say as a result of Operation Duxford £33,000 worth of cannabis plants were seized when eight warrants were issued.

    Separately, four men were arrested over firearms offences.

    South Yorkshire Police has confirmed it has had three reports of historical child sexual abuse related to football clubs in the county.

    The complaints are said to relate to incidents in the 1960s and 1980s.

    The force confirmed the reports in response to a question from Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Sioned-Mair Richards at a Public Accountability Board meeting.

    The clubs involved have not been named.
