Sheffield NHS surgeon Ghazala Ahmad-Mear is planning to walk 60 miles through the South Pole in January 2018.
Her campaign StepByStep is part of a 600-mile expedition called the South Pole Energy Challenge.
It is being led by Robert Swan, the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles.
Mrs Ahmad-Mear has to raise more than £60,000 ahead of her trip where she will face temperatures of -20C and blizzards.
The walk is the first to be powered by renewable energy using technology from NASA.
