    The Government is being urged to intervene to stop a steel company in Doncaster from going under. 

    Noel Village Foundry, based in Balby, is struggling in the face of changing demand and cheap foreign competition.

    500 people are waiting for coaches to take them to Sheffield after a suspicious package was found at Magna.

    They were attending a conference at the venue when the alert was raised.

    They are now being taken to their firms in Sheffield until the situation is resolved.

    I'm down at Magna where nearby roads have been closed off after a suspicious package was found.

    The bomb squad are on their way from Chester and are expected to arrive in a couple of hours.

    I spoke to Tim who was evacuated when the device was found just after 09:00.

    The Magna centre in Rotherham has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found.

    Sheffield Road has been closed between the Ickles Way junction and the St Lawrence Road junction because of the incident.

    South Yorkshire Police have said in a statement:

    "A cordon is currently in place on Temple Road, Rotherham after police received reports of a possible suspicious package at around 9.00am this morning.

    The site and surrounding areas have been secured and police are currently liaising with the EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) unit.

    Sheffield Road and Temple Road have both been closed."

    Doncaster's Tent City is set to be closed down later this week.

    Doncaster Council is taking court action on Friday at 11am at Doncaster County Court to try and shut down the camp on Waterdale.

    The authority says it has identified 60 homeless people living at Tent City and helped 43 of them, while the others refused assistance.

    Now, Doncaster Council's Chief Executive says Tent City is acting as a "magnet" for homeless people outside of Doncaster and so the council says it needs to take action.

    Last night in a Facebook Live video, Doncaster Tent City organiser Philip Hartley criticised council-funded services.

    He also stated that organisers have a second location in mind where they could move the camp.

    BBC Look North's Paul Hudson has paid tribute to former TV weather forecaster Ian McCaskill, who's died aged 78.

    Mr McCaskill, who had been living with dementia for the past five years, lived in a care home in South Milford near Selby.

    Paul Hudson, BBC Look North's weather presenter, who co-wrote the book Frozen In Time with Mr McCaskill, said he was "really sorry" to hear of his death.

    "We had great fun writing our book Frozen In Time. A warm, funny, generous and kind man," he added.

    They're hoping plans for a station on the East Coast mainline could allow them to have 25 million passengers a year by 2037.

    I'm at Potts family bakery in Barnsley this morning.

    They're a fifth generation bakers and have been making mince pies since 1891.

    They're now busy making a quarter of a million mince pies in time for Christmas.

    A BBC investigation's revealed there have been more cases of female genital mutilation reported in Sheffield than anywhere else in Yorkshire.   

    Female genital mutilation mainly affects women from an African or Middle Eastern background but there's evidence to show illegal operations, which can leave girls with life changing injuries and infertility, are happening in Britain as well as abroad.

  17. Doncaster fracking test well could be drilled in the New Yearpublished at 09:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    A test well which could eventually lead to fracking coming to our area could be drilled in the New Year.

    Planning approval was given to the proposals by the company iGas to drill at Misson near Doncaster in November.

    Thirty-seven planning conditions are being added to minimise the impact on the local community who have campaigned against the proposals.

    Nottinghamshire County Council says that the legal formalities will be completed by the end of January.

    That would then allow iGas to begin the drilling on the test well.

  18. Man arrested after Doncaster charity box theftpublished at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    A man has been arrested by police investigating the theft of a charity box in Doncaster.

    The collection was taken from the children's centre on Woodfield Plantation in Balby.

    The man was arrested nearby and will be interviewed by officers later.

    Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been revealing big expansion plans.

    They want to be as big as Manchester Airport by 2037 with 25 million passengers passing through their doors.

    They'll do it by pushing for a station on the East Coast mainline with another on the Doncaster-Lincoln line.

    With the work to improve road links which started with the opening of the Great Yorkshire Way earlier this year there would be big boost to their catchment area.

    There would also be a lot of development around the airport, including a new Aero Centre Innovation District which would boost jobs.

    The detailed report into the proposals will be launched in the New Year.
