    Folk singer Martin Simpson will be performing his last gig of the year at Firth Hall in Sheffield tomorrow night. The singer dropped out of college in 1976 to follow his passion for music and released his first album, "Golden Vanity"  in the same year.

    He has been nominated 31 times for the BBC Folk Awards and now lives in Sheffield.

  6. A bus with night nurses keeps drinkers safe in Doncasterpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    A bus with nurses, a social worker and a mental health worker on board has been parked up in Doncaster town centre for Christmas revellers in need of help.

    The safe haven bus will be outside Doncaster's Mansion House on the High Street on "mad Fridays" in the run-up to Christmas.

    It's hoped the service will help take pressure off local A&E services. Emergency attendances to Doncaster Royal Infirmary increased by 13% in 2015, compared with 2013.

  7. Third meeting over library hotel planspublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    Public demand has led to a third meeting with councillors being scheduled to discuss plans to allow a Chinese consortium to take over Sheffield's central library building and turn it into a luxury hotel.

    More than 10,000 people have already signed a petition about the leasing plans. 

    The council is pledging the Graves Art Gallery would remain and a new library would also be built in the city centre.

    The latest meeting would take place on 5 January 2017.

    Rotherham United goalkeeper Lee Camp will not be fit for tomorrow's game against Fulham.

    There is hope he could return for the game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. 

    Kirk Broadfoot and Greg Halford are also close to returning for the Millers.

  9. Search for missing 72-year-old Sheffield manpublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    Police in Sheffield are asking for your help to find missing 72-year-old Trevor Everton, external, as concerns grow for his welfare.

    Trevor was last seen at about 06:30 on Sunday in the Burngreave area of Sheffield and was reported missing yesterday evening.

    He is described as being about 5ft 9ins and of large build, with a shaved head, possibly wearing a brown undercoat and black coat.

  10. Watch: New road means faster buses between Rotherham and Sheffieldpublished at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    Faster journey times on buses between Sheffield and Rotherham are promised by a £30m project which has opened today.

    A new link has been built so traffic can avoid using junction 34 of the M1. 

    It was officially opened this morning by the transport minister Andrew Jones. Buses running between Sheffield and Rotherham should be more reliable as the traffic lights favour public transport:

    The mum of a 32-year-old man missing from Rotherham has made an emotional appeal for help to find her son. 

    Daniel Higgs hasn't been seen since 23 November and police say he'll be in need of his medication.

  14. Watch: Sheffield muslims honour late Pakistani singer turned preacherpublished at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    A remembrance service has been held at Sheffield's Pakistan Muslim Centre following the death of Pakistani singer turned preacher Junaid Jamshed. 

    He died last week in an air crash that left no survivors. 

    Jamshed gained an international audience as the vocalist with the group Vital Sings in the 1980s but in 2004, Jamshed officially renounced music after announcing that he had devoted his life to Islam.

    A new platform has now opened for rail passengers alighting at Doncaster and it's been given the number zero. It will be used by trains starting and terminating in the town.

    A 23-year-old man from Barnsley has been arrested following violent disorder at a caravan site in Ipswich linked to a murder investigation.

    Four men and a teenager have been detained. Two men, aged 18 and 32, are believed to have died after they were stabbed at the caravan site near the A14 on Thursday.

    A collision, external in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield last night has left a teenager with life-threatening injuries.

    A gold Fiat Punto was travelling along Catch Bar Lane towards Parkside Road at about 21:30 when it struck a 15-year-old pedestrian.

    The boy, who's from Sheffield, was taken to hospital where he remains.
