    Boxer Amir Khan says he'd love to fight Sheffield's Kell Brook next year. 

    Talks are under way between to the two camps to make the clash happen and Khan admits it could be one of his last bouts:

    Northern Powergrid says it wants to reassure its customers in Yorkshire that it's prepared should the forecast gales affect its network, external.

    It follows Met Office warnings for Storm Barbara, which is anticipated to hit our county from Friday morning onwards.

    Current forecasts indicate potential gusts of up to 70mph, with a further storm system of strong winds also forecast for Christmas day. 

    Northern Powergrid says it's "already taking action to ensure we have extra engineers ready to restore power and repair any damage".

  4. Met Office warning over Storm Barbarapublished at 07:59

    A yellow "be aware" warning's been issued by the Met Office, external, with very strong winds forecast for Yorkshire and the north of England on Friday and Saturday.

    Gusts of 60 to 70mph are expected as Storm Barbara hits the UK.

    The Met Office has warned of the potential for some structural damage, though that's more likely in the north west, as well as disruption to power supplies and travel.

    Barbara is only the second name designated this season, which began on 1 October, and follows Storm Angus, which brought high winds and rain to parts of Britain in November.

    Police investigating a murder at a house in Rotherham have named the victim.

    He was 47-year-old Steven Fretwell whose body was found at a property in Kingswood Avenue, Laughton, on Sunday. He died from multiple injuries. 

    Three men, aged 33, 22 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

    The 33-year-old remains in custody but the other two men have been released from the investigation.

    The clamour continues for Paul Warne to get the Rotherham United manager's job. 

    The Millers caretaker boss has said he doesn't want the job on a permanent basis. 

    Captain Lee Frecklington has added his voice to those wanting Warne to stay in charge.

    New Home Office figures tell us Yorkshire has taken in more Syrian refugees than any other region in the country. 

    According to the figures, external, 403 came here in the 12 months to the end of September under the vulnerable persons resettlement scheme. 

    There are large disparities in the figures, Doncaster hasn't taken any at all.

  9. Ex-Blades footballer still to hear from police about sex abuse claimspublished at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2016

    When Anthony Woodward went public with claims he was sexually abused as a boy in the 1980s, it set off a series of similar claims which have rocked football.

    His disclosure saw him waiving the right to anonymity given to alleged victims of sexual offences.

    In a series of social media posts on Wednesday night, Mr Woodward said he was "hurt" police had not made contact with him and also revealed that he had been abused by more than one person.

    I've now been waiting five weeks to provide my statement with the police for further abuse on me. I've not mentioned it before now but it hurts. I've kept quiet about it but now people should know I suffered more than one abuser. I need to let go of that pain yet still waiting."

    Operation Hydrant has received 819 referrals from police forces and the NSPCC and a total of 148 football clubs spanning all tiers of the game have been "impacted", says the charity.

    He's known in South Yorkshire as the Singing Plumber.

    Paul Ballington is a keen songwriter and he's come up with a catchy Christmas song that features his children...and one isn't especially nice to the other in the plot. Young Thomas tries to sell his sister online.

    Paul and Thomas popped in to see me today and gave us a blast of the song.

    Hundreds of people attended the funeral of one the most prominent members of Yorkshire's Sikh community today. 

    Mourners in Bradford paid their respects to sixty-nine-year old Rajinder Singh Panesar from Halifax. 

    He spent his career working to build relationships between different faith groups in Yorkshire. 

    Mr Panesar was also a former president of the Council for Sikh Gurdwaras.

    Grace Clough

    When it comes to shifting fast through water without a motor, Grace Clough, external takes some beating.

    Less than three years ago, Grace Clough knew little or nothing about rowing.

    Fast forward to 2016 and she is a double world champion.

    She won gold at the Paralympics in the Mixed Cox Four Rowing. 

    Tomorrow Grace will see a 'star' on the pavement bearing her name being unveiled at the Sheffield Legends walk of fame near the town hall.

    This is the face of a man who fired shots across a busy pub car park in Sheffield.

    He's 21-year-old Lewis Taylor from Shiregreen. 

    He fired shots at the Thorncliffe Arms pub in Chapeltown in July.

    Taylor has been jailed for six years and four months at Sheffield Crown Court.
