Flood defences in south given more money than Yorkshire riverspublished at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016
Four times as much money will be spent on flood defences along the River Thames than on all the rivers in Yorkshire.
Research by the BBC has found that £1.8bn will be spent on the Thames Estuary out of a £3.7bn national flood spending programme.
The Environment Agency says it invests where the risk is highest.
The disparity in regional flood defence spending comes as many flood victims remain homeless, 12 months after storms Desmond and Eva devastated parts of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.
