Research by the BBC has found that £1.8bn will be spent on the Thames Estuary out of a £3.7bn national flood spending programme.

The Environment Agency says it invests where the risk is highest.

The disparity in regional flood defence spending comes as many flood victims remain homeless, 12 months after storms Desmond and Eva devastated parts of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.

  2. Crowd expected for Stannington live nativitypublished at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

A dusty scene of a doll in a wooden manger just doesn't cover it for nativity celebrations in Stannington.

Every year they act out key scenes from the story of the birth of Jesus complete with a real baby and lots of animals, taking them through the streets to a series of pub car parks.

The action starts at the Peacock Inn tonight and there's a donkey and a small flock of sheep involved.

There's concern from residents over anti-social behaviour in parts of Herringthorpe in Rotherham.

People in the Browning Road area say there's been a problem with drugs for more than a year.

One resident told me that her children were not allowed to play out because it was too dangerous.
