    Doctors in Sheffield will be given nearly £1m to continue research into new cancer treatments. 

    A clinical trials unit at the Weston Park Hospital, external is developing more effective treatments for different cancers, including rare tumours.

    The driver of a car involved in a crash in Thorne last night has life-threatening injuries.

    The 18-year-old was injured on Tudworth Road, external in a crash which involved two other cars.

    Police want to hear from any witnesses.

    The plan for an elected mayor for South Yorkshire could be delayed - and we still don't know whether Chesterfield will be part of it. 

    It's because a High Court Judge has ruled the consultation on whether the town should be part of the Sheffield City Region was unfair.

    It's because the consultation didn't cover all of the potential effects of any decision and where power would be held over certain issues.

    The number of suspects in the UK-wide football child abuse scandal has reached 155, the National Police Chiefs' Council has announced.

    Police say there are now 429 potential victims, some as young as four at the time of the alleged offence, and 148 clubs are now involved.

    The issue was highlighted when former Sheffield United player Andy Woodward said he was sexually abused by a coach when he was a junior player and that it "wrecked" his life.

    The leader of Derbyshire County Council, Anne Western, has welcomed the outcome of a judicial review as "a victory for fairness and common sense."

    Derbyshire County Council took Sheffield City Region Combined Authority to the High Court because it believed a public consultation on whether the region should expand to include Chesterfield was unlawful.

    The High Court Judge, Mr Justice Ouseley, ruled that the consultation failed, external to ask local people a direct question about whether or not they believed Chesterfield should become part of Sheffield City Region.

    The judge said this made the consultation unlawful and unfair and that "something had gone seriously and significantly wrong".

    Detectives working on a murder case in Rotherham have arrested a third suspect.

    The body of a 47-year-old man was found at a house in Laughton at the weekend. He had died from multiple injuries.

    Police have now arrested a 33-year-old man , externalover his death; two other men remain in custody.

    The Australian prime minister has personally written to the mother of murdered Derbyshire backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung, pledging to look into her concerns about the safety of travellers. 

    Mia was stabbed to death in August while working to extend her visa on a farm in Queensland.

    Miss Ayliffe-Chung had lived in Surfers Paradise, on Australia's Gold Coast, and worked as a waitress at the Bedroom Lounge Bar before making an 800-mile trip north to work outdoors.

    She was just days into a three-month trip working with animals when she was killed.

    You've probably heard that firefighters in South Yorkshire and the Everly Pregnant Brothers have a charity single called 'Chip Pan, external'.

    It's a fun song with a serious message about the risks of chip pan fires.

    As the song vies for top spot in the charts the fire service has been called to such a blaze in Conisbrough, and this time major damage was averted. 

    They say it underlines the dangers posed and are urging people to be extra cautious when using chip pans.

    A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car which had collided with another vehicle.

    The woman, who is in her 60s, is critical but stable in hospital after the incident on Jockey Road at Oxspring last Friday.

    Police in Skegness are trying to trace the owner of this jewellery which they think was stolen in a burglary.

    If you look closely you can see the medal is inscribed with the words: Denaby Main School - winners Montagu Shield.

    A family-owned motor parts business in Sheffield has gone up in smoke this morning after fire broke out about 05:00.

    Fifteen firefighters tackled the blaze in Carlisle Street. Nobody was injured in the incident.
