    An army veteran says he's disgusted after getting a bill for more than £4,000 from the NHS.

    Malcolm Roberts from Scunthorpe says although he was born and raised In the UK, an issue at Doncaster Hospital Trust means they think he's a healthcare tourist and they have billed him £4,000 for treatment for Crohn's disease.

    He's says he's tried contacting this hospital but couldn't get through on the phone and claims he was physically turned away from the relevant office at the hospital because "staff were too busy."

    Sheffield City Council has issued a statement on the felling of trees on Western Road.

    The trees were planted almost 100 years ago by pupils at Westways Primary School and are a registered war memorial.

    Councillor Bryan Lodge, cabinet member for environment, says they're working with the War Memorials Trust to explore all options for preservation.

At the moment, we do not know what, if any, solutions may be possible, but we will seek to work through all the options carefully with the community before coming to any final decision."

    Plans to cut down trees commemorating local war dead could see further protests at Sheffield Town Hall today.

    The trees on Western Road in Crookes were planted 98 years ago by pupils at Westways Primary School and are a registered war memorial. 

    But 23 of them are set for the chop as part of the city councils ongoing street improvement scheme.

    Almost 200 new jobs could be created by a new leisure complex on Doncaster's Lakeside.

    It will cost £6m and the council will initially pay for it and they say they'll be making money on it by 2019.

    A group in Chesterfield which works to direct local people to mental health services, is set to close.

    DORA has been responsible for allocating funding to local self help groups for more than 10 years, but will see its role as facilitator come to an end in March.

    A Sheffield household called the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) 2,077 times in the past year.

    Despite being called more than five times a day, an ambulance took a person to hospital just five times in the year.

    South Yorkshire households make up half of the top ten most frequent callers to the emergency number.

    The YAS receive around 2,330 emergency and urgent calls per day.

    Sheffield United have made their first signing of the January transfer window.

    MK Dons midfielder Samir Carruthers, 23, has joined the Blades for an undisclosed fee, external on a three-and-a-half year deal.

    Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal says he isn't aware of any interest in Claude Dielna, Sergiu Bus or Lewis McGugan, with the three players being available for transfer.

    Rotherham United caretaker boss Paul Warne is already sick of January transfer speculation. The Millers boss has hit out at rumours of a bid for striker Danny Ward from Ipswich Town.

    Meanwhile, Dominic Ball is leaving Rotherham United to join Peterborough on loan.

    South Yorkshire Police have said extra steps should be taken to keeps dogs safe, after a rise in thefts by what is believed to be criminal gangs.

    The Sheffield Star say more than 300 dogs have been stolen, external in South Yorkshire over the past five years.

    The police say they're aware in an increase in the number of reports of stolen dogs made to the police, but there is no one specific reason for the rise.

    Sheffield Heeley MP Louise Haigh has attacked the government over new train fare increases.

    From today, rail tickets have risen in price by an average of 2.3% compared to last year.

    There's concern about the number of people turning up for treatment at Rotherham's accident and emergency department today.

    The trust which runs the hospital contacted BBC Radio Sheffield to ask people to only attend if they have a medical emergency.

    They say resources are being stretched because of people going to the department who don't need to.

    Edale Mountain Rescue have had a busy start to the new year, despite it only being three days old.

    Yesterday they were called to an incident on White Edge in the Peak District where a Sheffield man fell 25ft onto rocks.

    He was given morphine for a 'significant chest injury' before being taken to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

    In addition, the team attended three more falls yesterday, external.

    A former fighter radicalised in Britain has been jailed for three years for planning to fight for Islamic State.

    Shivan Azeez Zangana, 21, from Sheffield, who uses the surname Azeez, was sent to the UK by his family to keep him safe after battling extremists with the Kurdish separatist group in Iraq.

    But after falling in with "a nest of rats" here, he was turned by an asylum-seeker Aras Hamid, 27, to go with him to fight for IS.

    Extremist material was later discovered on an iPad and iPhone he tried to post to the war-torn country.

    Azeez collapsed in the dock after being jailed earlier today, but was able to leave unaided after a few minutes.
