  3. 'Hidden' Georgian delights uncovered by £3m grant in Barnsleypublished at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    Cannon Hall, external in Barnsley is being given a grant of almost £3m. 

    The money is for restoration work, which will be carried out between now and the year 2020.  

    The money has come from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund's Parks for People programme.

    • An intact ice house built in the 1700s will be revealed
    • A two-acre area of woodland behind the walled garden will be cleared and opened up for educational tours and activities
    • The lakes of the park will be dredged and restored, improving their appearance and water quality and supporting biodiversity
    • Once completed, visitors will be able to hire rowing boats and fishing equipment, emulating popular Georgian pastimes

    The club has fired manager Danny Wilson and his assistant Chris Morgan, after losing four of their last six games. Their latest defeat came at the hands of Bradford, who won 2-0.

    The Spirites are in the League One relegation zone. Wilson had been in charge for just over a year.

    The police watchdog will continue an investigation today into a fatal crash, external involving a police car over the weekend in Sheffield. 

    A 70-year-old man died after a collision with a marked South Yorkshire vehicle on Saturday evening .

    It was on a routine patrol and the accident happened at the junction of Penistone Road and Bradfield Road.

    A truck driver who lives in Rotherham and led a campaign to help the family of a man killed in the Berlin terrorist attack will today be personally thanked by the Polish ambassador. 

    Lucasz Urban's lorry was hijacked by the attacker who then drove it into a Christmas Market, killing 12 people. 

    David Duncan helped raise nearly £200,000 for Mr Urban's family.
