    There's a new café with a difference in Sheffield.

    It aims to showcase and celebrate Sheffield's sporting history. It's in the centre of the city and run as a "not for profit" social enterprise.

    The charity behind the scheme, external says it's part of their effort to support and encourage engagement in sport and other recreational activities which enhance health and wellbeing, social inclusion, education and training.

    We understand Rotherham United plan to keep Paul Warne in charge of the team until the end of the season. 

    Warne has been in charge for eight games so far as caretaker boss.

    Carlos Carvalhal says his latest signing Morgan Fox will bring Championship experience to his side. 

    The left back joined from Charlton on Friday, but was cup tied for the Owls FA Cup defeat at Middlesbrough yesterday.

    Yorkshire's Joe Root will be available for the start of England's one-day series against India after the birth of his son. 

    The batsman delayed his departure to be with his partner but it's understood he'll be joining his team-mates in Mumbai on Thursday and is set to play in Sunday's first ODI.

    More UK electricity was generated by wind turbines than coal-fired power plants for the first year ever in 2016.

    Data from Elexon and Sheffield Solar at the University of Sheffield, external has helped create a national picture of energy generation.

    Wind accounted for 11.5% of power generation in the UK across the year, as coal declined to just 9.2%, according to estimates by the Carbon Brief, external website which reports on climate science and energy policy.

  6. Rio bike ride malaria victim 'up and running'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    Sheffield's Charlie Webster fell seriously ill during a charity bike ride at the Rio Olympics.

    She was struck down with malaria and was in a coma.

    The Ride to Rio left the UK on 27 June, with Ms Webster and her colleagues cycling 90 miles a day with only one rest day each week before arriving at the Maracana stadium on 4 August.

    Firefighters say this damage came from a heater being placed too close to soft furnishings.

    The fire broke out at a house on Sunderland Place in Tickhill on Friday night, and luckily smoke detectors raised the alarm.

    A man was taken to hospital, external and the house was badly damaged.

    Police in Barnsley say they've found an unusual use for lighting often used by nightclubs and pubs; it's been used to provide better growing conditions for illegal drugs.

    People were asked to suggest names for this new-born lamb at Graves Park Animal Farm, external.

    After many suggestions on social media the lamb will be called Janus - named after the Roman god of Beginnings, and where January gets its name. 

    A sign will be going up at the animal farm to let people know the lamb's name.

    Major delays on the East Coast Main Line are expected to continue this afternoon after the line was closed earlier today near Newark. 

    It means people travelling between West Yorkshire and London will face cancellations and delays for some time to come.

    Affected are Grand Central services between Bradford Interchange and London Kings Cross, Hull Trains services between Hull and London Kings Cross and Virgin Trains East Coast services between Harrogate/York/Edinburgh/Leeds/Glasgow Central.

    A residents-only permit scheme starts today for Barnsley's four household waste, external recycling sites.

    Reduced hours at tips in Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham means people have been travelling to Barnsley to leave rubbish there. 

    People visiting the tip will be issued with a car window sticker, external when they show photo ID along with a valid vehicle registration document proving they live in Barnsley.

    Letters and e-mails uncovered by BBC Radio Sheffield have led to a row between councils.

    In 2015 the leader of Barnsley Council, Sir Steve Houghton, wrote to HS2 lobbying for a station at Meadowhall. 

    Sheffield Council leader Julie Dore said that was "an abuse of his position" as chair of the Sheffield City Region.
