  2. HS2 e-mails 'a massive hole' in new South Yorkshire planspublished at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

    Kevin Larkin
    BBC Local Live, Sheffield

Former Labour leader Ed Miliband says e-mail exchanges uncovered by BBC Radio Sheffield blow "a massive hole" in plans to put the HS2 rail line through his constituency.

In July, it was revealed the route of the rail line through South Yorkshire would pass through Mexborough instead of Meadowhall.

    Ed Miliband MP

The MP says that in his opinion the exchanges highlight that Meadowhall is the right route for all of South Yorkshire, despite Sheffield Council's opposition.

Ed Miliband says HS2 "turned on a sixpence" in their views and said the new route wasn't "justified by the facts or the evidence".

    Quote Message

If the [Meadowhall] proposal was right in Autumn 2015, how did it suddenly become wrong in Spring 2016?"
