    Research for BBC Yorkshire has found schools in the county have lost £8.8 million in real terms over the last academic year.

    The cash crisis has led to one in 10 children in South Yorkshire primary schools being in a class with more than 30 pupils.

    Rotherham Post Office is one of 37 on a list which could be closed.

    The list of offices which may close or become franchised has come from the Communications Workers Union (CWU).

    In total, 37 post offices around the country are at risk with a potential loss of 300 jobs.

    Gill Furniss, who's the MP for Sheffield Hillsborough and Shadow Minister for Postal Services has condemned the plans:

    Police are asking for help to find a missing 13-year-old boy from Sheffield.

    Ronnie Coleman was last seen leaving City Road on Friday afternoon.

    Police are searching for a prisoner who's gone on the run from Hatfield open prison in Doncaster.

    Ricky-Lee Langford was jailed in 2011 for seven years after carrying out two robberies.

    Langford is from Maltby but police believe he could also be in Doncaster or Thurcroft.

    Anyone who knows where he is should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

    One in 10 children in South Yorkshire are now in primary school classes with more than 30 pupils.

    Research carried by BBC Yorkshire also found the number of secondary school pupils in classes of more than 36 pupils has trebled in the last five years.

    Across Yorkshire, the research found schools have £8.8m less funding in real terms this academic year compared to last year.

    Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said it is "totally unacceptable" that a Sheffield man died after a long wait for an ambulance.

    Police searching for missing Barnsley man Christopher Thorpe, 56, have found a body.

    The discovery was made this afternoon in Rockley Woods at Birdwell.

    Although formal identification has not yet taken place, police think it is Christopher Thorpe.  

    He was reported missing on Saturday.

    His family have been told of the find.

  18. Hundreds of jobs go in Tesco shake-uppublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    Tesco has said that 1,000 people will be made redundant as part of an overhaul of its UK distribution network. 

    Two hundred of the jobs will go at Balborough, near Chesterfield.

    The grocer is set to reduce the number of distribution centres from 25 to 23, closing its Welham Green and Chesterfield sites. 

    The changes are expected to be in place by June.

  19. Ambassador praises fundraiser over Berlin attack victim supportpublished at 17:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    A British lorry driver who raised thousands for the family of a fellow trucker killed in the Berlin terror attack has been personally thanked by the Polish ambassador at a ceremony in London.

    David Duncan, who lives in Rothertham, raised more than £190,000, external for the widow and son of Lukasz Urban who was shot and stabbed in his truck ahead of the attack on a Christmas market which left 12 people dead and 48 injured.

    Mr Duncan was presented with a letter of gratitude at the Polish Embassy by Ambassador Arkady Rzegocki, who thanked him for his selflessness. 

    Mr Duncan, who used to be a continental truck driver, said he felt humbled to be thanked in such a way.

  20. Eating disorder support improved in South Yorkshirepublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    Rotherham and Doncaster are two areas to benefit from more spending on eating disorder support.

    Bases are being set up in both towns by the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH, external) as £500,000 is put in to the service.

    The Community Eating Disorder Service (CEDS) offers support to children and young people up to the age of 19 who are experiencing eating disorders. 

    Support is also offered to their families.
