  2. Shopkeeper attacked with baseball bat in off-licence robberypublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    A shopkeeper has been attacked by two men, waving what's believed to be a baseball bat, during a robbery.

    It took place at 10:00 on 6th January at the M&J off licence in Meersbrook.

    The shopkeeper was taken to hospital with a broken arm.

    The two thieves ran off up Meersbrook Avenue having got away with cash and alcohol.

    Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

    Police in Rotherham have seized a car as the driver has no licence or insurance.

  5. Barnsley & Doncaster to 'explore Yorkshire-wide' devolutionpublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    A split has opened up between South Yorkshire's councils on devolution.

    After the delay to elections for a Sheffield City Region mayor, Doncaster and Barnsley are looking to "explore" a Yorkshire-wide deal.

    Doncaster Mayor Ros Jones and Barnsley leader Sir Steve Houghton have said they're open to an offer for a joint deal from West Yorkshire.

    Both authorities say they will ask their businesses and residents in the Summer what they think of each option and choose the best one.

    However they have also said they are committed to continuing to work economically with the city region.

  6. Two taken to hospital after Sheffield collisionpublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Two people in their 70s have been taken to hospital after a collision in Sheffield.

    The 74 year old woman and 70 year old man were in the blue Ford Focus which collided with a red VW Golf travelling in the opposite direction

    The crash took place on Southey Green Road at around 13:00.

    The driver and passenger in the Golf left the scene before emergency services arrived.

    Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

  7. Barnsley MP raises concerns about A&E waiting timespublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    An MP is raising concerns over waiting times at Barnsley Hospital.

    Michael Dugher, who represents Barnsley East, says the hospital missed a target to have 95% of patients in emergency rooms seen in under 4 hours.

  8. 'Not possible' to hold Sheffield City Region election in 2017published at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Plans for a regional mayoral election in May are off.

    They've been delayed after a court judgement ruled fresh consultations were needed on plans for Chesterfield and Bassetlaw to join the devolution deal.

    The Sheffield City Region is now planning for an election in May 2018.

  9. More council homes to be built in Sheffieldpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    More council homes are set to be built by Sheffield City Council. 

    The authority is almost one third of the way toward its target of 1,000 extra council homes.

    In the last 18 months it has bought an extra 285 properties and is building 89 new council homes which are almost complete. 

    By the end of the programme it is estimated that the council will have built around 450 of this total.

    Police are looking for a wanted Rotherham man.

    Shane Peter Delaney is wanted by police investigating an alleged serious assault on a woman earlier this month. The 46 year old is also wanted for recall to prison.

    He is believed to be in the Unsbrough, Kimberworth and Maltby area.

    People are being told not to approach him but call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

  11. Doncaster Council defends litter fine schemepublished at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Doncaster Council has defended a 30-fold increase in the number of littering fines in a year.

    The authority says it does not set targets for private contractor Kingdom and that the decision to issue fines remains with the council.

    Doncaster Council says it takes six hours of patrolling on average to catch one dog fouling offence.

    It also says Kingdom receives different payments depending on the type of fine issued.

    The authority says using a private firm frees up council staff to deal with more serious crimes.

  12. Funeral service takes place for 'Rimmo'published at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    The funeral service for the man known as "Mr Barnsley" has taken place.

    After decades of involvement with Barnsley FC, Norman Rimmington's life was celebrated at All Saints Church in Darton.

    His funeral procession will now pass by Oakwell before heading to Barnsley Crematorium.

    Police are asking for help to find a missing Barnsley man.

    John Shepherd was last seen at 19:15 last night in the Chapel Mews area.

    Anyone who has seen the 63 year old is asked to contact police on 101.

  14. Crowds line the streets to pay respects to 'Mr Barnsley'published at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Crowds of Barnsley fans have lined the streets to pay tribute to Norman Rimmington.

    The former goalie spent 70 years at Oakwell doing jobs including groundsman and kit manager.

    He was known affectionately as "Rimmo" and "Mr Barnsley".

  15. Twenty three people and organisations could face Hillsborough prosecutionspublished at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Investigators have announced that 23 people and organisations could face prosecution over the Hillsborough disaster. 

    Files relating to the deaths of 96 people at the Sheffield Wednesday ground in April 1989 have now been passed to the Crown Prosecution service which will decide whether or not to press charges.

    Operation Resolve, which is  investigating events leading up to the disaster, has identified 15 criminal suspects. 

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation into the alleged cover up in the wake of the disaster has identified 8 suspects. 

    The names of the suspects have not been revealed.

  17. Tributes laid to 'Mr Barnsley' ahead of funeralpublished at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Mourners are starting to gather ahead of the funeral of Norman Rimmington.

    The man known as "Mr Barnsley" had roles including goal keeper, groundsman and kit manager at Oakwell.

    Barnsley FC and the club's management will be at Norman's funeral which takes place at 13:15 at All Saints Church, Darton.

    A procession will pass the ground at 14:15 for fans who wish to pay their respects.

  19. HS2 plans dubbed a 'cut price option' for Sheffieldpublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    A Sheffield MP has criticised the plans for the HS2 rail line in South Yorkshire. 

    Clive Betts, who represents Sheffield South East, called current proposals for a spur into the city centre a "cut price option". 

     He told Transport Secretary Chris Grayling that Sheffield is getting a poor deal.

    But Chris Grayling said the route had been moved from the previous Meadowhall option because of opposition from Sheffield City Council and others within the city:

    New photos have been released in the search for missing Sheffield boy Ronnie Coleman.

    The 13 year old hasn't been seen since Friday afternoon.

    Police say that despite a number of reports from the public, they haven't had any confirmed sightings.

    But officers believe Ronnie is still in Sheffield and is in contact with friends.

    However concern is growing around his welfare:
