    Plans to elect a mayor for South Yorkshire and the wider Sheffield City Region have been delayed.

    We were expecting to vote in May for the first regional mayor, which was part of the devolution deal agreed last year, external.

    But after a legal challenge and uncertainty about the future of the deal, the elections have been delayed.

    A 12 year old boy is in hospital after being left with a suspected serious head injury after a collision.

    He was crossing Buchanan Road at 15:00 yesterday when there was a collision involving a blue Skoda taxi.

    The driver of the taxi was not injured.

    Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

    A e-fit has been issued after an attempted mugging Doncaster on Christmas Eve.

    A 22 year old man was stopped by two men while walking along Thorne Road at 05:45 that morning.

    One man is then said to have pulled out a knife and demand the victim's belongings.

    The victim then ran away.

    The second man is described as white, slim and was wearing an orange and white hoodie.

    Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

  5. Barnsley Council removes traffic roadwork restrictions after congestionpublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2017

    Restrictions on the A61 Birdwell junction with the M1 are going to be changed - after they caused traffic jams.

    After severe delays on Monday and Tuesday, the council says the restrictions will now be eased.

    It will mean the work will take longer to complete than originally planned.

    Motorists can keep up to date with the roadworks on the BBC Travel website.

    A source close to Labour's Shadow Defence Secretary has said she is "absolutely furious" after a spokesman for Jeremy Corbyn called for a  "wind down" of tensions with Russia.

    Nia Griffiths has said she supports British troops being sent to Estonia, which is on the Russian border.

    Rotherham Council has approved plans to join a controversial scheme for issuing litter fines.

    There has been a 30-fold increase in fines in Doncaster since the private firm Kingdom was brought in last year.

    284 fines were issued in Doncaster in 2015, last year that number jumped to 8717 penalty charges.

    Now Rotherham Council is set to join the scheme:

    Police in Rotherham have carried out a drugs raid on a house in Wath-upon-Dearne overnight.

    "Rimmo" as he was known had done pretty much every job going at Oakwell for Barnsley FC.

    A Doncaster driver has become an internet sensation after defending parking across two bays.

    The parking is known as "Clarkson parking" after the former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who is also from Doncaster.

    Luke Varley defended his tactic after appearing on a local Facebook group.

    He told BBC Radio Sheffield he parks out of the way and would never use a disabled or parent and child space.

    Since the story went online he says many people have called him a "legend" but others have had a different reaction:

    There has been a 30-fold increase in litter fines in Doncaster in a year.

    From 284 fines issued in 2015, it rose to 8717 in 2016 after the private firm Kingdom was brought in to issue notices for fly tipping, littering and dog fouling.

    Sheffield's about to get an injection of culture! 

    Arts Council England has granted the city £150,000 to try to attract visitors from around the UK and abroad.

    A new joint marketing campaign will be set up around the themes of festivals, modernist architecture, music and beer, plus major events.

    Three local artists will also be commissioned to create new works as part of the project.
