Southwark Crown Court heard former Royal Household worker Ronald Harper, jailed today for accepting over £100,000 in bribes, had "multiple sides to his character".
Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith told Harper, who is from Sudbury, he was a "hard-working, apparently loyal team player, admired and trusted by ... colleagues", but he was also "dishonest and greedy".
He went on: "Nobody could have guessed that a trusted insider such as yourself could think of going to the lengths that you did to corrupt the system for personal gain."
"Your betrayal of your colleagues' trust and your lack of remorse at what you did are both remarkable."
Harper was jailed for taking payments or gifts from companies that were then given large contracts.
He was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to make corrupt payments after two trials in the summer.
