    Southwark Crown Court heard former Royal Household worker Ronald Harper, jailed today for accepting over £100,000 in bribes, had "multiple sides to his character".

    Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith told Harper, who is from Sudbury, he was a "hard-working, apparently loyal team player, admired and trusted by ... colleagues", but he was also "dishonest and greedy".

    He went on: "Nobody could have guessed that a trusted insider such as yourself could think of going to the lengths that you did to corrupt the system for personal gain."

    Harper was jailed for taking payments or gifts from companies that were then given large contracts. 

    He was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to make corrupt payments after two trials in the summer.

    A former Royal Household official from Sudbury has been jailed for five years after accepting more than £100,000 in bribes.

    Ronald Harper, 64, took the cash and gifts from the directors of companies who were then given large contracts for work at royal residences, including Buckingham Palace.

    Harper was in charge of maintaining the Queen's main London home as well as St James's Palace, Clarence House and Windsor Castle from 1994 until he was suspended in 2012.

    He was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to make corrupt payments following two trials in June and August.

    Missing serviceman Corrie Mckeague was reported missing on Monday afternoon when he failed to turn up at work, the BBC understands.

    Police are asking dog walkers and anyone who has been out in the countryside around Bury St Edmunds to report anything unusual. They're also asking people to check any outbuildings in the area.

    It's now known the 23-year-old is single and not from the area. He had been out with friends for the evening when he was last seen in Brentgovel Street, in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

    The serviceman is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, of medium build and with short, light brown hair.

    RAF Police have been assisting Suffolk Police in a search of the area. Yesterday, the National Police Air Service helicopter was also involved.

    More now on the search for missing RAF serviceman Corrie Mckeague, who was last seen in the early hours of Saturday morning in Bury St Edmunds.

    RAF Police from Honington have joined Suffolk Police in the search, which has stretched along the A134 between Bury and Honington.

    The 23-year-old was last seen in Brentgovel Street at around 03:20 on Saturday morning, after a night out with friends.

    CCTV footage seems to show that he slept briefly in a a doorway before getting up and moving away, possibly planning to walk home several miles away. It's hoped that the CCTV will be released soon.

    Suffolk never gets its fair share of funding, the chief executive of a charity behind a report highlighting deprivation and poverty in the county has claimed.

    Stephen Singleton, chief executive of Suffolk Community Foundation, says the Hidden Needs report, external should be used to help push much-needed funds to the right places.

    "Suffolk never gets its fair share of anything," he said. "Whatever budget you look at, we don't get our fair share, and that's true for the voluntary sector too. 

    "This is independent evidence to show to outside funders that this is not a beautiful, lovely place. There are needs here."

    The report looks at housing, employment, health, disability and crime, and claims that Kirkley, south of the Bascule Bridge, is the 10th most deprived area in England.

    A Suffolk neighbourhood has been labelled the 10th most deprived place to live in England.

    The Kirkley area in Lowestoft, just south of the Bascule Bridge, has been highlighted as having a huge number of hidden needs in a report published today by the Suffolk Community Foundation, external and the University of Suffolk.

    Peter Aldous, MP for Waveney, said: "Domestic abuse and drugs issues are a challenge in the area.

    "I know that is something that the police and crime commissioner feels particularly strongly about, and we've got to do more on that front."

    The global superstar bid £6,200 for the pig at auction last week in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice.

    The singer, who was brought up in Framlingham, wasn't actually at the auction but a bid was placed on his behalf, the hospice said.

    Helen Phillips wrote: "He is such a great guy! Well done Ed!  

    V J Flynn wrote: "Think if I were him, I'd have bought it too. Such an awesome thing to have when it's based on you."

    Claire Radley said: "Well done ed this man is a legend."

    Twenty years ago today three-time Champion Jockey Frankie Dettori, who lives in Newmarket, left the betting industry in a state of near meltdown.

    He completed the Magnificent Seven - becoming the first jockey to win all seven races on his card at Ascot. 

    The bookies combined odds on Dettori completing the feat amounted to 25,095/1 (at starting prices), or nearly 236,000-1 for anyone taking advantage of the morning odds on offer.

    To put it in to context, the odds on Leicester City winning the Premier League last season was a mere 5000/1.

    Health bosses in the west of Suffolk have refused to make a decision on how much fertility treatment they'll provide for free in the future. 

    Yesterday the same group in Ipswich and East Suffolk talked about proposed savings by cutting IVF cycles offered on the NHS, from the current provision of two.

    Ipswich and East Suffolk put off making a decision until next year. 

    Today, West Suffolk's Clinical Commissioning Group deferred the decision to give more consideration to proposals. 

    Dr Christopher Browning, for NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group, said: "It is important we fully understand the impact these proposals will have on people in west Suffolk."

    Suffolk Wildlife Trust's newly-appointed hedgehog officer, Ali North, has told of her mission to boost numbers of the mammal in Ipswich.

    The idea is to make gardens hedgehog-friendly, leaving things a little untidy, with wood piles and leaves for hibernation. 

    She started the job last week after seeing off global interest for the role.

    Suffolk Owl Sanctuary has appealed for help in finding 28-week-old Jane, a young female buzzard who disappeared while training with falconer Harry Studd.

    Jane, who was bred at the sanctuary, was being flown using a creance - a training line - yesterday morning at Stonham Aspal.

    Mr Studd said the young buzzard caught a gust of wind, and she just kept flapping. "I started to ease her down with the creance, and as I was easing her down, the line just snapped," he said.

    She flew off but Harry is convinced she will still be in the area.

    "I think she'll probably be a bit frightened and not knowing what to do, but I don't think she's too far from home. I think she's still in the Stonham Aspal area."

    He's urged anyone who does find her not to try to grab her, but to contact him at the Sanctuary on 08456 807 897.

    Ipswich Town legend Ray Crawford has told BBC Suffolk that money is ruining football, following the news that Sam Allardyce left his role as England manager.

    Allardyce left his post by mutual consent in response to comments he made to undercover reporters over bypassing transfer rules. 

    The FA labelled it a "significant error of judgement".

    Former Town striker Crawford, who helped Ipswich to the league title in 1962, said the game had become "all about money".

    "If you've got the money, your club's got money, you're going to have the best players," he told Mark Murphy. "And if the best players don't do it for you then the manager gets the chop, he's out, and another one comes in."

    Mck McCarthy’s injury woes increased last night, with confirmation that Brett Pitman’s ankle injury is worse than first feared.

    After last night’s goalless draw against Brighton, McCarthy confirmed the striker would now be on the sidelines for at least 10 weeks. 

    Pitman picked up the injury in the game against Leeds at Elland Road last Saturday.  

    At least he won’t be lonely while he’s getting treatment - he joins Jonny Williams, David McGoldrick, Tommy Smith and Luke Varney on the treatment table.

    Ed Sheeran bought the porcine-shaped tribute to him in the Pigs Gone Wild auction last week, St Elizabeth Hospice has revealed.

    The singer, who had described the statue as "awesome", paid £6,200 for Ed Sheer-Ham but was not present at the auction.

    It was one of more than 50 pig sculptures that formed Ipswich's art trail throughout the summer, culminating in the grand sale last week at Trinity Park.

    Rachel Backshall, from St Elizabeth Hospice, said: "It’s a question that everyone has been asking since the Pigs Gone Wild auction last week – did Ed buy his pig? And we are very pleased to reveal that he was the winning bidder.

    "We were wondering if he would want to buy it, but then he said he would sign the pig for the winner. He was very good at keeping everyone guessing!"
