    Mick McCarthy

"The fans turn up and expect to watch their team compete, hopefully play good football, and try and win the game and we're doing most of that," McCarthy said.

"I don't think we're entertaining them particularly at the minute though because we are not scoring goals."

"When we beat QPR 3-0 the other week it was far from free-flowing, but we kept going and got the win and everybody went away happy."

At this afternoon's pre-match press conference, the boss refused to be drawn on the Blues chances of making the play-off this season, preferring instead to focus on their next opponents.

"At this moment in time I am interested in beating Cardiff and hoping that will give us whatever spring board we need to move forward," McCarthy said.

"We desperately need goals and we are trying our damnedest to get them. It will be good to have Brett back because he's a good personality. He's a winner."

    Graeme Mac
    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

    Luke Varney

Mick McCarthy's side have failed to build on recent wins over Sheffield Wednesday and QPR, losing the matches that immediately followed, to leave them 16th in the Championship table.

"Losing straight after a win is very disappointing and it's hard to put our fingers on why it's happening because we've all stuck together." Varney said.

"We understand where the fans are coming from as they pay their money, but we care as players and hurt just as much when we come off the pitch and see them unhappy."

Varney spent four years at Crewe Alexandra, but joined the club 15 years after former scout Barry Bennell was sacked by the club.

Bennell, a convicted paedophile, is now at the centre of a number of fresh allegations.

"It's not a nice thing for these former players to have to do, but they should get massive credit for doing so," said Varney.
