  1. Police chief 'confident' in team searching for missing Corrie Mckeaguepublished at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2016

Suffolk's acting assistant chief constable has defended the team searching for missing serviceman Corrie Mckeague, after criticism from his mother.

Louisa Pepper, Suffolk Police acting assistant chief constable

Louisa Pepper, acting assistant chief constable, said: "He's been missing a number of weeks, so I can fully understand how the family must be feeling.

"However, let me reassure you, this investigation is a priority for Suffolk Police. We are using the similar sort of resources we would put into a murder investigation.

"We've put in search officers, we're utilising members of the RAF, we've got inquiry teams looking at it, so we are putting an inordinate amount of resources into finding him.

"I'm absolutely confident that my officers will do everything they can to find Corrie."

"You can feel the concern in the town, and even though it's 10 weeks on, people are still there, really praying and keeping faith," she said.

"I don't know what's happened for Nicola to lose faith in the police but much better to carry on working with them if possible, I think, just to keep that forward momentum going.

"Otherwise people start to lose heart, and we don't want that, it's really important to keep faith."
