Figures from the Trussell Trust, external show that demand on food banks is increasing, particularly in areas where the new Universal Credit system has been rolled out, like Lowestoft.

    Trinity Methodist Church, Lowestoft

In the past 12 months the number of people needing food parcels has risen by 33%.

Alan Stevens is a volunteer for the Trinity Methodist Church foodbank in the north of the town.

He told me: "Over the last few weeks I've averaged six to seven per Monday morning.

"A lot of it is all to do with the universal credit being delayed.

"They agree it, and then it's delayed so a lot of people are really, really struggling and in great need."

In response, the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) tell us "the reasons for foodbank use are complex, so it's misleading to link them to any one issue."
