    A questionnaire asking for people's thoughts on shaping the future of Bury St Edmunds town centre has prompted more than 1,000 responses.

    Suffolk Police officers were looking for off-road bikes in Orwell Country Park yesterday morning when they came across this fella bin-diving for his brunch.

    According to the law in England and Wales: "A person commits theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it." 

    Just because someone throws something away, doesn't mean they don't own it. So if it can be proven that the property that was thrown away had a rightful owner, it would be illegal to take it... 

    However, police had better things to do than tussle with the finer points of the law and the squirrel was allowed to go on his way.

    A woman whose brother died after "tombstoning" (jumping into water in a vertical position) two years ago, has told BBC Suffolk she doesn't want another family to experience the same heartbreak she has.

    Zena Williams, who's helping to promote a water safety campaign, external, said from what she's been told, Matt's friends were already jumping in, and he decided to give it a go: "He just climbed over on to the edge and (tombstoned), holding his friend's hand.

    "He just couldn't breathe with the shock of the cold water, and got into difficulties.

    "I want people to know what happened to my brother, he was an amazing person."

    Winger Danny Rowe was one of the few Ipswich Town, external players who came out of Saturday's defeat at Rotherham with any credit, and was praised by his manager afterwards.

    The 25-year-old, who joined the Blues from Macclesfield in January, finally made his full debut at the New York Stadium, and looked lively throughout.

    "I was pleased (with Danny)," said Mick McCarthy. "If you learn about some of them, let's talk about the ones who really pleased me and he was one of them.

    "I thought he showed a great deal of quality, certainly pace, he did the dirty jobs and he's got a lot to offer."

    Harry Styles may have prevented Ed Sheeran from scoring the UK's longest-running number one - but the star has broken a 22-year-old chart record, external down under.

    Shape Of You is enjoying its 14th week at number one  -  beating a record previously set by Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise, which stood atop the singles chart for a mighty 13 weeks in 1995. 

    Meanwhile, in the UK, the song returned to the top of the chart for its 14th week at the top last Friday. 

    Only Frankie Laine’s 1953 hit I Believe has achieved more non-consecutive weeks at number one, spending 18 weeks on the snowy pop peak "back in the day".

    In the album chart, Ed's Divide is still the leader while Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. just missed out, landing at number two, around 30,000 copies behind Ed.

    Kendrick has cause for celebration back at home, though, where his record went straight to number one, with 2017’s biggest single-week sales for an album - a total of 603,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music, external

    Two men have been arrested after a police pursuit that saw cars travelling at more than 100mph (160km/h) on the A14 between Ipswich and Felixstowe.

    Officers on a routine patrol in Ipswich yesterday morning asked the driver of a black Vauxhall Corsa to stop in Felixstowe Road, and when it didn't, a pursuit started. 

    The vehicle was followed along the A14, exiting at Trimley and driving down High Road towards Felixstowe.

    Two people walking dogs on Golf Road, and two horse riders on Ferry Road in Old Felixstowe, had to take move out of the way, police said.

    The vehicle finally stopped at an address in St Mary's Crescent, Walton, at about 10:15.

    A 24-year-old man from Ipswich and a 25-year-old man from Felixstowe were arrested at the scene.

    Earlier in the day officers had received reports of an assault of a man in the Purdis Farm area of Ipswich, in which the victim sustained cuts and bruising to his face, a suspected broken nose and a lost tooth.

    The suspect, a man driving a back Vauxhall Corsa, is then understood to have left the scene.

    It's believed this followed a road-rage type incident with another vehicle near St Augustine's roundabout in Ipswich.

  13. Life-threatening injuries for A12 driverpublished at 09:35 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after his car left the A12 while travelling north.

    It happened between junctions 13 and 14 near Ingatestone in the early hours of this morning. 

    The 33-year-old, who's from Suffolk, was taken to hospital with head injuries.

    A century from debutant Jaik Mickleburgh wasn't enough to prevent Suffolk, external from losing their opening Minor Counties Knockout Trophy, external game of the season.

    The former Essex batsman hit 124 before Hertfordshire successfully chased down their victory target of 285 to win by two wickets in North Mymms.

    Suffolk return to action at home to Wiltshire next Sunday.

    Ipswich Witches, external are still looking for their first away win of the season after going down 52-38 at Newcastle Diamonds in the Championship.

    Better luck for Mildenhall Fen Tigers, external though as a paid maximum from guest Danny Ayres (pictured) helped them to a 61-29 victory over Eastbourne Eagles in the National Trophy.

    Glenn Driver's men, who needed a win to secure a play-off place, led Enfield Town through a goal from Gareth Heath (pictured), but conceded a Bobby Devyne equaliser four minutes from time.

    Lowestoft Town, external, who beat Harrow Borough 2-0, and Bury Town, external, who won 4-1 at Great Wakering Rovers, were the only Suffolk sides to end their campaigns with victories.

    Even though Saturday's 1-0 defeat at relegated Rotherham didn't mean a great deal in terms of Ipswich Town's, external league position, it still irked boss Mick McCarthy.

    He made nine changes to the side that beat Newcastle five days earlier, giving a number of his fringe players rare starts.

    It was the Millers' first win in 18 matches and their first clean sheet of 2017.

    "I'm livid, I've just had a right pop at the players," said McCarthy. "We shouldn't have lost it. It was a horrible goal to give away but I thought we had enough chances to have taken the lead."
