It's been a day of light and shade - we began the day with the 11th anniversary of the disappearance of Hollesley teenager Luke Durbin, reported the rescue of a bird of prey from netting on a building in Ipswich, and shared a photograph of the woman expecting Corrie Mckeague's baby.

The day has ended with GP surgeries having to shut down their computers because of a cyber-attack affecting the NHS, and major delays for rail travellers between Ipswich and Norwich.

Dr Mils Hills, who is an associate professor of risk, resilience and corporate security at the University of Northampton, has told the BBC the cyber attack on the NHS "could have been prevented".

"It's most certainly going to have come from a user clicking something they shouldn't have, whether it's in an email or on an internet browser tab," he said.

"Hospitals should have measures to prevent this.

"It will be fixed and removed, but it will cost a lot. The task to fix it won't be difficult, but will be time-consuming.

"The problem is this is a pretty low-level attack and it's causing such chaos."

An NHS Digital statement said: "NHS Digital is working closely with the National Cyber Security Centre, the Department of Health and NHS England to support affected organisations and ensure patient safety is protected."

The bird of prey, which got caught up in netting (twice) in Ipswich town centre was freed again...

Fire crews were called to the Lloyds Bank building on the Cornhill and first released it at about 13:00.

It flew around a bit, but then managed to get snared up in the anti-pigeon netting soon after.

Stall-holders told me the bird was last spotted on the roof of the building... but I couldn't see it from ground level.

The bird had bells on it, so we believe it has a keeper who is hired to scare other birds away from property.

Most of this afternoon's showers should quickly move away to leave a largely dry and frost-free night with clear spells across the BBC East region.

Temperatures in some spots will remain in double figures.

It’s spells of sunshine and scattered showers for Saturday, and while we can’t rule out an odd heavy downpour, there will be some places that stay dry throughout the day. 

The winds will be a light to moderate south to south-westerly with temperatures possibly reaching 20C (68F).

An appeal is being made for bikers to take part in a funeral escort for an Ipswich man who died in a motorbike crash last month. 

Rob Stewart, 26, from Maudslay Road in the Whitehouse area, died on 29 April after being involved in a collision on Henley Road in Akenham. 

His partner Julia Day, who made the appeal, is expecting their daughter at the end of July and Rob was stepfather to her two other children.

The driver was caught speeding 11 times in 25 days on the same bridge.

GP practices across Suffolk have been told to shut down their computer systems as a precaution, following what's thought to be a cyber-attack affecting NHS services across England.

The advice has come from the clinical commissioning groups in both east and west Suffolk, a spokesman said.

We've checked with both Ipswich Hospital and the West Suffolk Hospital, and neither is affected by the attack.

The James Paget University Hospital is among those affected by a major cyber attack, which is disabling IT systems at hospitals across the UK.

The Gorleston hospital has confirmed it has implemented a paper system instead of computers, and is following a well-trodden emergency plan.

In the other two A&E hospitals serving Suffolk, both Ipswich and West Suffolk believe they are unaffected.

Suffolk darts player Peter Wright has put last night's disappointment in Aberdeen immediately behind him.

The 47-year-old from Mendham was pipped to the Premier League, external Winner's Bonus as Michael van Gerwen finished top of the table at the end of the regular season.

Wright is now focusing on next Thursday's Finals Night at London's O2 Arena, where he'll come up against Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen.

"I've qualified for the top four for the first time and I'm happy with that.

"I'm pinching myself thinking that I'm in that top four - it's crazy. My form's coming and I've got another week to get it right for the O2."

RNLI lifeguards will be returning to beaches in Norfolk and Suffolk to keep visitors safe.

Following intensive training, they'll return to duty this weekend at Sheringham West, Cromer East, Mundesley, Gorleston and Sea Palling. 

A fortnight later, on 27 May, they'll be on patrol at Lowestoft South and Southwold North.

By 8 July, the charity will have lifeguards - in their distintive red and yellow uniforms - at 17 beaches across the two counties, from 10:00-18:00, seven days a week.

Ipswich Witches, external new boy Nathan Greaves certainly caught the eye in last night's 59-32 victory over Scunthorpe Scorpions at Foxhall.

The 19-year-old Yorkshireman scored eight points, including one heat win, and was even handed a ride in heat 15.

"I think it was good for Nathan [to get heat 15], it gave him another four laps," said Chris Louis, Witches' director of speedway. 

"For a first time out this year, in this league, on this track it was a great performance.

"Nathan was the best rider that we could've picked, with the points that we had, to replace Danyon [Hume] and he's proved tonight that I think we made the right choice."

1) Writing songs is like therapy for Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran was the latest star to be cast away on Radio 4's hypothetical desert island.

The singer-songwriter, whose record Divide is battling Kasabian's new one to remain at the top of the album charts for a whopping 10th week later, appeared on the show on Sunday.

He told presenter Kirsty Young that he can knock out four or five songs a day when he's in "album mode" and gets great catharsis out of working out his problems out on an acoustic guitar... for your benefit.

So everyone's a winner.

2) TLC achieved what Elvis never did...

...the US girl band played their first EVER gig in the UK this week.

The King never managed that (although he did visit Prestwick airport near Glasgow).

Anyway, back to the girls, who also dropped a new track, external this week, and our reporter Mark Savage at the gig at Koko in Camden, London.

He described it as "25 years of anticipation translated into one of the most joyous and affectionate shows in living memory".

Wowzers.

He also spoke to them before the show about performing without late band-mate Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes and working with Donald Trump on the US Apprentice before he became President.

3) The Rolling Stones are going out on tour again

But not in the UK sadly...not this year at least.

Apparently there aren't any sports stadiums available that are big enough.

That's the official line anyway above.

The band announced their No Filter tour, external this week which will see them perform thirteen shows across Europe in September and October.

The Stones last UK gig was at Hyde Park in 2013 and you're all going to have to wait just a little longer.

Or else get yourself on a plane to Lucca. Or Arnhem, or...

4) Glasto co-organiser Emily Evis is keeping a 'big secret' from us all

But what could it be?

TLC's first ever UK festival show maybe? Or The Stones to rev up the engines on their tour plane early perhaps?

Well, we don't know because as well as running a cracking festival, Emily Eavis is also very good at keeping a secret.

She did let slip to the BBC that they've managed to hide something big about this year's Worthy Farm event from everyone thus far.

"I haven't even hinted or told anyone it's coming and we've managed to keep it completely quiet for the first time ever."

5) It ain't easy to hold a single saxophone note for over 47 minutes.

Just ask Femi Kuti.

The eldest son of Afrobeat music pioneer Fela Kuti suffered a real blow this week (pardon the pun...no actually don't, that was a good pun) when he narrowly missed out on the world record for holding the longest single note played on a wind instrument.

The Nigerian star used circular breathing techniques to hold a note on his saxophone for 46 minutes and 38 seconds at a gig in Lagos.

He thought that enough for the record, then found out that back in 2000 Vann Burchfield had managed a mighty 47 minutes and 5.5 seconds.

Essentially an entire half of football, including injury time.

He took it pretty well though (below).

A man in his 20s has been arrested after a collision involving a van and a number of stationary vehicles in Newmarket.

Police received a number of calls from members of the public at about 01:40 reporting the collision in Churchill Court.

Officers arrived shortly afterwards, and discovered a silver Ford Transit van had collided with five parked vehicles - three cars and two vans.

A 27-year-old from the Cambridge area was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol. 

He was initially taken to hospital for a check-up and then brought to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, where he currently remains for questioning.
