    A woman in her 90s was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Wednesday afternoon, after being hit by a car in Framlingham.

    Officers say they were called by the ambulance service just before 16:20, to reports of a collision between a black Ford Focus and a pedestrian in Riverside in the town.

    The woman was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

    Witnesses to the incident are being asked to to contact police.

  2. Renewed appeal to trace missing teenagerpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    Eleven years after Hollesley teenager Luke Durbin went missing, and on the anniversary of his disappearance, there's been a renewed appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

    Luke was 19 when he vanished in the early hours of 12 May 2006, after a night out with friends in Ipswich.

    The last confirmed sighting of him was walking across Dogs Head Street in the direction of the bus station.

    Following his disappearance, police released several CCTV images of potential witnesses, who have not been identified.

    Some of these have been re-released, in a bid to trigger memories 11 years on.

  3. Emergency services aid rescue of man at foot of Corton cliffpublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    The coastguard service has released details of an incident, external earlier this week when it was involved in the rescue of a man found at the bottom of a cliff in Corton near Lowestoft with serious injuries.

    Lowestoft and Southwold Coastguard Rescue Teams were informed of the incident just after 14:00 on Tuesday.

    Additional emergency services were called, a doctor who lives locally helped the teams and the RNLI Gorleston lifeboat was diverted.

    The man was transferred to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.

    Plans have been submitted for a new school at RAF Croughton - an US air base near Brackley.

    It follows the planned closure of three other bases used by the USAF - RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk and RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire announced in 2015 - and means 1,300 extra personnel will be relocated to Croughton by 2022.

    RAF Croughton - located off the B4031 - has an elementary (primary) school for 60 children up to the age of 11, but the new building will cater for 470 pupils of all ages and 60 staff.

    The pupils will follow a US curriculum and some will have to be transported in by bus from off-site accommodation.

    The school is likely to get planning permission next week.

    An Ipswich family has been reassured that extra costs to their holiday - incurred when their two-year-old son came down with chicken pox - will be covered by their travel insurance.

    Theo Ambrose (pictured with dad Patrick Amrose), woke up on the first day of the family's holiday in Rhodes covered in spots. He was then hospitalised after a doctor suspected he also had pneumonia.

    Speaking on day five of the family's holiday, Theo's mum, Kirsty Tierney-Jones, told BBC Suffolk the first 48 hours were horrendous but now they're "over the worst", although they are confined to their room.

    "We were meant to be coming home on Saturday but he won't be fit to fly," she said. "He needs to be examined again on Monday or Tuesday next week, but he's still breaking out in new spots."

    Kirsty described the wait for confirmation their additional costs would be covered as "terrifying", saying they asked themselves: "How were we going to pay the medical bills, how on earth do we pay for the flights, the cost of the accommodaiton to stay on."

    Their insurance company has reassured them these costs will be covered.

    An elderly woman who had a ring ripped off her finger in her Lowestoft home earlier today has been left "distraught" and needed medical attention.

    The robber pinned down the victim - who is in her 70s - and stole her jewellery and some cash before fleeing the house in the Prince's Walk/Normanston Drive area.

    Det Insp Steve Bunn, of Suffolk Police, external, said she raised the alarm with a neighbour who then called officers.

    "She was very shaken by the incident and we had to have the paramedics attend because she really was quite distraught by it, as her family are," he said.

    "We'd appeal to anybody who was in the area of Prince's Walk from about 10:15 this morning to come forward with any information. 

    "Certainly, if you've been offered any jewellery or rings we'd be keen to hear from you."

  15. Drafted-in officers 'thanked' for help in West Meadows' violent clashpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 10 May 2017

    The detective in charge of investigating December's violent clash at West Meadows travellers' site has thanked officers drafted in from other forces - following today's sentencing of six people.

    Caravans were set alight and a horse was beaten to death in a seven-minute attack in Ipswich last December.

    Det Ch Supt David Skevington, of Suffolk Police, external, said: "We were able to call upon the support of officers from other forces via the mutual aid system and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody involved.

    "The National Police Air Service also played a key role during the operation and was able to gather important evidence.

    "Operations such as this are as a rarity in Suffolk and it is testament to the professionalism of officers and staff that the response was so effective."

    A pregnant horse was beaten to death with a piece of wood during a night of violence at an Ipswich travellers' site, a court heard today.

    Six people were sentenced today at Ipswich Crown Court after earlier admitting violent disorder at West Meadows travellers' site in December, days after a double fatal stabbing there.

    Judge Rupert Overbury said the "sickening and brutal slaughter" of the horse lasted seven minutes.

    A police operation - estimated to have cost £340,000 - was mounted, with a helicopter scrambled and officer reinforcements drafted in from as far away as Bedfordshire.

    A further £60,000-worth of damage was caused on the site, with the horse - due to foal in April - valued at £4,000.

    A robber wrenched a ring from the hand of an elderly woman while pinning her down in her own home in Lowestoft earlier today, police have said, external.

    The victim, who is in her 70s, was left "extremely distressed" by the robbery which happened at about 10:15 in the Prince's Walk/Normanston Drive (pictured) area of the town.

    The robber fled with the diamond ring from her hand, gold chains and a small sum of cash after trying to pull off more rings from her fingers and demanding cash.

    The lady was in her bedroom when she first heard a noise and called out, expecting it to be a relative, but was then confronted by the robber who forced her to sit down.

    The robber is described as white and may have been wearing a camel-coloured hood top.
