  3. Teenager given suspended sentence after armed robberypublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 12 May 2017

    Kate Arkell
    BBC Radio Suffolk

A Stowmarket teenager who admitted threatening shop staff with an axe has been told he will be jailed if he misbehaves again.

Ipswich Crown Court heard Connor Higgins, 19, from Kent Road, had been dealing cannabis and had got himself into debt with his suppliers.

One Sunday morning in March, he went into the One Stop shop on Ipswich Road and asked for cash back. He was refused and was heard to say "if I don't get this money, I'm going to die".

He returned a couple of minutes later, wearing a different top, his face partly covered, an axe in his hand, and asked staff for "all the cash in the tills".

Despite being told it "wasn't worth it' he asked again and was handed less than £100 in total.

Higgins was recognised by shop staff, and police arrested him within an hour.

He was sentenced to two years in prison for the robbery, and eight months for dealing cannabis, both suspended for two years.

Six other offences were taken into consideration.

Judge Rupert Overbury told him he must also do 200 hours of community work to pay back the community he stole from.

Sentencing him he said Higgins had no relevent previous convictions and he had "said sorry right from the start".

Mr Overbury said he had "acted through panic and stupidity" and that it was "in the public interest to suspend the sentence, so that he could demonstrate he could lead a useful life and behave himself".

He told him if he put another foot wrong, he would be jailed and it would be his own fault.

A Bletchley Park mathematician is being recognised this weekend, 100 years after his birth.

Bill Tutte, a Cambridge graduate from Newmarket, helped to unravel the Lorenz machine, which was a more complex system than the Enigma and used by the German high command.

Dr David Kenyon, the research historian at Bletchley Park near Milton Keynes, said his role was "important and little known" as he was such a "modest man".

He explained that he came to the park from Cambridge University aged 24 and worked as a codebreaker in a department that had so far been unable to crack the code.

In Tutte's memoirs he wrote "as an act of desperation, they gave it to me", and just a few months later he broke it.

Okay, while we grab a quick panini, here's some more new music for you lot to get your teeth into.

There must be *a limit to how many tracks you are allowed to have in the charts as Ed Sheeran has let Zara have this one to herself.

The Swedish pop star does not want to be yours I'm afraid, or at least she's having major doubts in the video above.

We're not sure she should be dancing so close to a burning car in a flammable-looking puffer jacket though.

The track is taken from her album So Good, which was released in March.

*Only joking, Ed is totally allowed to monopolise the charts as he wants.

    Steve Martin
    BBC Radio Suffolk

I'm at the Cornhill in Ipswich, where a big bird of prey is caught in the netting on the side of the Lloyds building.

For the last 10 minutes it's been eating a pigeon that's also caught up in the netting.

It's got some bells attached to its feet, I can see a tag on the back of it. We think it's a kite.

Down below there's quite a big crowd. A cordon has been put in place and we've got three fire engines, including one with a turntable ladder.

Nicki Durbin, whose son Luke has been missing since a night out in Ipswich in 2006, says there may still be people who haven't been traced from that night who could help with the inquiry.

Speaking the day after police re-released some CCTV images of potential witnesses, she said: "It might just be the people in those images are completely unaware, so if they do recognise themselves or recognise someone else I'd be so, so grateful if they went to the police just to be ruled out of any connection to Luke.

"They might not even have seen Luke, but yes I would appeal for anyone who does see themselves in those images to come forward."

"There will obviously come a point when there are no new leads to follow, I do understand that, but the difference from them taking over and the police prior to them, it's knowing that everything has been done that can possibly be done and that's been a healing process in that way.

"I don't feel I'm having to fight for my son's disappearance to be taken seriously."

"Luke and his other friend went to what was Zest nightclub [opposite Ipswich Railway Station].

"They got separated and although it was later established that Luke was trying to get home, he never got home.

"I will never stop searching for Luke and my biggest fear is that I will never find out where Luke is now."
