    A devolution deal which covers Yorkshire and the Humber is being proposed by the Labour Party. 

    It would mean having a mayor of the whole region with a cabinet made up of all local authorities in the area. 

    Shadow Cabinet Minister John Trickett, external is calling on trade unionists and Labour Council members in our region to support it.

    He told the Politics Show why a "one-Yorkshire" deal, which includes North Yorkshire and York, is best for the whole area:

    The road was closed early this morning due to an accident involving several vehicles and weather conditions have hampered efforts to clear the highway.

    A retired vicar has appeared in court charged with indecently assaulting a schoolgirl.

    Graham Gregory, 80, of Brickfield Park Drive, York, is accused of assaulting a girl in 1990 on the Isle of Man.

  7. Pothole-spotting system to be piloted on bin lorries in Yorkpublished at 10.35

    York is to pilot a new pothole-spotting system. The council is one of two authorities who've been chosen to trial it for a year.

    Cameras will be fixed to bin lorries which will then hopefully identify road surface problems before they become an issue.

    It comes as millions of pounds are being spent on fixing thousands of potholes across Yorkshire. 

    The funding is part of £1.2bn given to councils by central government to improve the general condition of our roads, external.

    York City Knights will play at Bootham Crescent this season. After talks with new owner Jon Flatman, City of York Council granted permission for the club to use the facility again this year.

    York City manager Gary Mills is undecided on striker Vadaine Oliver's future. Oliver played in the midweek county cup defeat at Whitby after returning from a loan spell at Notts County. 

    There's still a doubt over Harrogate Town captain Danny Ellis for tomorrow's game at home to Bradford Park Avenue.

    With the start of the new rugby league season just over a month away, York City Knights, external fans finally have the news they've been waiting for.  

    The club have been given the go-ahead to play at Bootham Crescent this coming season. 

    City of York Council had previously refused to work with previous owner, John Guildford, and were holding back permission to use Bootham Crescent for 2017. 

    However, after talks with new owner Jon Flatman, external, the council have granted permission for the club to use the ground again this year.

    North Yorkshire Police are advising drivers to check road conditions before they start their journey today.

    This driver ended up overturning on the A170, blocking the road near Sutton Bank in both directions:

    Snow fell across the county last night and this morning, making driving conditions dangerous.

    The police want drivers to take advantage of various weather station web cams to check conditons on North Yorkshire's roads, external.

  12. Katie Rough killing: Teenager due back in courtpublished at 08:05 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

    A teenager accused of murdering seven-year-old Katie Rough is due to appear before a judge at Leeds Crown Court today. 

    Katie was found with severe lacerations to her neck and chest on a playing field in York on Monday and died later in hospital.

    A 15-year-old girl was arrested after Katie was found injured. She appeared before magistrates in York on Wednesday and was remanded into secure accommodation

    The defendant, who cannot be named because of her age, is charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

    People along North Yorkshire's coast are breathing a sigh of relief after this morning's high tide failed to cause predicted flooding.

    This image was taken a little while ago in Scarborough showing that despite water getting close to roads on the seafront, it hasn't caused the chaos that had been predicted.

    The Environment Agency say early morning tide levels were less than expected but alerts and warnings remain in place.  

    Flood barriers - like the ones put up after the last tidal surge in December 2013 - went up yesterday in front of buildings along the seafront in Scarborough.

    More on the news that the Environment Agency says the threat from this morning's predicted storm surge along the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coast has passed.

    Leigh Edlin, from the agency, says the weather "has been in our favour".

    However, he adds that there is still a renewed risk later today.

    "This evening's tide will be higher between 18:00 and 19:00, and there's still some risk of spray and potential overtopping in this afternoon's tide," says Mr Edlin.

    People living along the North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coast should still exercise caution, he adds.

    There are no significant delays to trains out of York Station, external.

    In Scarborough, Sandside and Royal Albert Drive have been reopened after fears of flooding weren't realised overnight.

    However, the High Street in Sandsend (A174) remains closed due to flood prevention measures.

    The A19 at Barlby has off-peak roadworks at the junction with Market Weighton Road (A163).

    Bridge Street (A659) in Tadcaster remains closed in both directions due to repairs to the bridge.

    This was the scene at Whitby Harbour a little earlier as Ian Hugill, from Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team, checked water levels at high tide.

    As high tide came and went, the water had not breached surrounding roads and buildings amid worries about a predicted storm surge along the east coast of England.
