    People living with dementia have the chance to go along to special sessions at museums in Ripon and Harrogate from this week.

    The sessions are also open to their families and carers, and begin at the Ripon Workhouse Museum, external from today. 

    Further sessions are due to be held over the following five weeks at Harrogate's Mercer Art Gallery, external and Pump Room Museum, external.

  2. Travel update: Major delays on East Coast Main Linepublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2017

    Trains on the East Coast Main Line may be delayed by up to 80 minutes after an incident near Newark affecting trains between Doncaster and Grantham.

    The delays are expected to last until at least 11:00, according to National Rail.

    The fate of Scarborough's landmark Futurist Theatre is due to be decided later today. 

    Borough councillors are to vote on whether to set aside £4m to demolish the seafront venue. 

    Thousands of people have been campaigning to save it, many of whom are expected to march on the town hall ahead of the meeting. 

    Independent councillor Janet Jefferson says they still don't know enough to make a decision and today's discussions will be crucial:

    Chickens and ducks with avian flu have been found at a property in North Yorkshire.

    The affected birds have the H5N8 strain of avian flu and were found at a property in Settle. 

    The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has said the risk to the general public is "very low".

     A 1.6-mile protection zone and a six-mile surveillance area have been put in place around the infected premises to reduce the risk of the disease spreading.

    Fines are coming back for people who wrongly drive on a city centre road in York.  

    Back in 2015, City of York Council had to repay fines after it was decided they had levied the fines illegally.

    From today, traffic restrictions have been re-introduced on Coppergate - where between 08:00 and 18:00 only buses, taxis and permit holders will be allowed to use it.

    £11m of that total was in York, where officials say they want to increase recycling.

    There are no major delays reported on the trains out of York Station so far this morning. Take a look at the live departure board, external for the very latest.

    On the roads, there are speed restrictions in both directions on the A61 at Princess Royal Way, Pannal.

    The A1 has narrow lanes and speed restrictions at Leeming Bar.

    Gilling East's Main Street (B1363) is closed to traffic in both directions between Church Lane and Coulton Lane.

    And Bridge Street (A659) in Tadcaster remains closed in both directions due to long-standing repairs.
