We're all supposed to be environmentally friendly and recycle as much as possible, but new figures suggest that in North Yorkshire we could be doing better.

The latest statistics show councils across North Yorkshire have spent £46m over the last three years sending household rubbish to landfill.

In York, the council currently recycles 43% of the rubbish it collects, whereas in areas like Thirsk and Northallerton the rate is 54%.
