Leeds United and Burnley have been promoted to the Premier League.

The two teams are at the top of the Championship league table with 94 points each and cannot be caught with two games left to play.

Leeds hammered Stoke City 6-0 at home on Easter Monday but had to wait until Burnley played later in the day before they could celebrate promotion.

Burnley, also at home, beat their closest promotion rivals, Sheffield United, 2-1 on Monday evening, meaning promotion was confirmed.

The results mean Burnley will return to the Premier League after just one season in the Championship, and Leeds are back after two seasons, having last played in the Premier League in the 2022-23 campaign.

Speaking before Burnley’s game, Leeds manager Daniel Farke said he’d be a "fire beast" if the result meant promotion was confirmed.

“I normally celebrate with cake and coffee on the sofa.

"If there is something major to celebrate, then believe me, I will be a fire beast. I will be the first on the table for sure,” he said.

Following that victory and their own promotion party, Burnley boss Scott Parker said: "The ambition and target at the start of the season was to get back to the Premier League.

"We've managed to do that, so I'm hugely proud of the squad,” he added.

With two games still left to play, either Leeds or Burnley can win the Championship league title.

The teams in positions 3rd - 6th in the Championship will go into the play-offs, aiming to win the third promotion place to go up to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, Leicester City have been relegated after losing to league leaders Liverpool. They join Southampton, who will also drop down a division.

Ipswich Town are almost certain to be relegated too, which means all three teams promoted from the Championship last season could go back down again.
