Ballon d'Or awards: World's best players announced

Paris St Germain forward Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati have been named the world's best players at the 2025 Ballon d'Or awards on Monday.

Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman was named women's coach of the year, with England and Chelsea player Hannah Hampton winning the trophy for best women's goalkeeper.

The Ballon d'Or, which means Golden Ball, chooses the best players of the year, voted for by football journalists from all around the world.

The ceremony was held in Paris, which has hosted the awards since 2019.

Ousmane Dembele took the prize for best male footballer after helping his club win a treble last season.

Paris St Germain won the Champions League, French league title and the French Cup, with the France forward scoring 35 goals and making 14 assists in 53 matches.

Meanwhile Barcelona's Lamine Yamal. who was also in the running for the top award, won the Kopa Trophy, for the best player under 21, for the second year in a row.

Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati became the first woman to win the Ballon d'Or for three years in a row.

Bonmati, who received the award from Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, said: "My third time in a row here, and I still can't believe it. Incredible."

Arsenal and Spain winger Mariona Caldentey came second in the vote.

There were five England players in the top 10, including Arsenal's Alessia Russio in third place and Chloe Kelly fifth.

England manager Sarina Wiegman, who steered the England team to victory in this year's Euros was named best women's coach in the world.

Wiegman, who was also in charge during England's European triumph in 2022, said: "The women's game has grown so far, we have broken records."

"This is not just a personal honour - I see it as a recognition of the women's game, of our journey and where we have come so far," she added.

Hannah Hampton wins first ever women's goalkeeper award

Italy's Gianluigi Donnarumma and England's Hannah Hampton with the Yashin Awards for best goalkeeper

England and Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton won the first-ever women's Yashin trophy for best women's goalie.

Hannah was a key part of the England team's Euro 2025 triumph, saving two Spanish efforts in the shootout.

The Lionesses beat Spain 3-1 on penalties after the final finished 1-1 after extra time.

"I don't think this award is an achievement for me, it's an achievement for women's goalkeeping," she said as she collected her award.

Manchester City's Gianluigi Donnarumma won the seventh edition of the men's best goalkeeper prize for his final season with Paris Saint Germain which included winning the Champions League.
