As the January transfer window slams shut, the Women's Super League (WSL) has witnessed a wave of massive, big name moves that promise to shake up the competition for the second half of the season.

One of the biggest signings saw WSL champions Chelsea, agree a Deadline Day deal for England midfielder Keira Walsh from Barcelona.

It has been a huge month for Chelsea as they have broken multiple records to sign two of the world's best players.

The fee for Walsh is believed to be under the world record of around £900,000 that Chelsea paid for USA defender Naomi Girma earlier this month.

Walsh, who left Manchester City to join Barcelona in what was a world record fee of £400,000 in 2022, said she was keen to return to England to be close to family.

During her time at Barcelona she won back-to-back league titles and the Champions League.

Meanwhile Walsh's England teammate, Chloe Kelly, has joined Arsenal on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season.

City's arch-rivals Manchester United had made an offer for the striker on deadline day but it was rejected by City before a loan agreement with Arsenal was agreed.

On Wednesday, Kelly posted on Instagram that she wanted "to be happy again" and did not see her long term future at City.

Kelly has made just one WSL start this season and has said she was concerned about her place in the England squad, with the 2025 European Championship taking place in July.

As a Lioness she scored the winning goal against Germany when England created history with their first victory at a major women's tournament at Euro 2022.

Kelly said on Wednesday: "With the Euros fast approaching, this summer is a huge one and I want to be in a position to give it my best shot to represent my country."

Her contract with City ends in the summer but, because she's a loan player, she can't play against them as an Arsenal player when the two teams meet on Sunday.
