Summary

  1. Flag!published at 23:44 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

Joe Mixon bursts through a couple of holes in the Chargers defence for two big gains, but there's a flag down for offensive holding and the second one is ruled out.

Houston backed up to the 24.

It may have been a defensive stalemate for much of that first half but man has this game burst into life. Can barely catch my breath.

Don't ya just love play-off football!

  3. Stroud on the marchpublished at 23:40 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

CJ Stroud is purring now, playing like the CJ Stroud of last year that lit up the NFL. Having the treat of running himself is just forcing the Chargers pass rush to think twice and that even slight hesitation just opens things up a bit more in the passing game.

Cade Stover has stepped up with a couple of catches too, and an option other than Nico Collins again just opens things up a little.

It seems like if you’re Houston just make sure it’s CJ Stroud or Nico Collins.

Don’t give anyone else the ball because bad things are happening!

Simple question for you for this second half, who wins from here?

Let's get those thumbs working - thumbs up for Houston and down for the Chargers.

  6. Turnover on downs!published at 23:36 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

Jim Harbaugh rolls the dice by going for it on third down, but receiver Quentin Johnston doesn't even make the first down marker with his run, so when he collects the catch he still has a couple of yards to find.

That's hard to do with Derek Stingley draped all over him, and Houston take possession again. Another big-time play by this Texans defence.

  7. Big play!published at 23:32 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

Ladd McConkey, of course, wriggles free for a 17-yard gain, and Derek Stingley then grabs his facemask to add on an extra 15 yards with the penalty.

  8. Fumble! Chargers have it backpublished at 23:31 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

Joe Mixon fumbles the ball for the first time in his past 1,082 touches of the ball - and what a time to do it as the third Houston turnover of the day costs Houston the chance of more points.

Mixon took a lateral pass and actually looked like he was going to throw it before trying to tuck and run, obviously didn't tuck it properly...

  9. What a start!published at 23:28 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

Houston come out for the second half firing just as they ended the first half - and again it's CJ Stroud finding Nico Collins for a huge gain over the middle.

Collins beats his defender, then barges through a tackle and scampers away for a 41-yard catch and run that moves Houston deep into LA territory.

  10. Collins 'gave them a spark'published at 23:26 Greenwich Mean Time

LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans (HT)

Former NFL cornerback on Sky Sports

    Nico Collins gave them life.

The Texans had to find a way to force him the ball. Two big end routes and so many yards after the catch. He did that in the redzone, came up with a big catch and that was what they needed.

He gave them that spark and CJ Stroud with his movement in the pocket set up the key field goal.

  11. Texans defence is ballingpublished at 23:25 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

    Jason Bell
Former NFL cornerback on Sky Sports

The Texans defence was flying around, they knew it was on them, it was show up and show out - especially on third downs. They were stopping the run early.

When they're in coverage it's sticky, they're attacking the ball carriers and attacking the ball. It's man-to-man press coverage - "you can't beat us" - and they are very confident about covering these receivers. This defence is balling.

  12. What changed? 'CJ Stroud'published at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time

LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans (HT)

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans speaking to CBS at half-time: "CJ Stroud stepped up. He put the team on his back.

"In the second half, we have to be more efficient on offense. We have to make sure we sustain our drives and then keep playing great defence.

"We have just got to come out and finish."

  13. First half statspublished at 23:20 Greenwich Mean Time

The majority of Houston's offence came on that one touchdown drive, leaving CJ Stroud with 180 yards passing with one score and one interception.

Justin Herbert has just 97 yards and one pick.

A common theme is that nobody can run the ball - JK Dobbins has 26 yards from eight rushes while Stroud leads the Texans himself with his 27 yards all coming on just one run.

  14. Half-time - Texans turnaroundpublished at 23:15 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

Houston could not do anything for the majority of that first half, but a broken play after a bobbled snap changed everything.

After CJ Stroud made that crazy completion, the Texans went 99 yards in 13 plays to score the only touchdown of the game so far.

From looking completely lost to scoring 10 points in the final 58 seconds of the half, Houston now lead and everything looks rosy. That's play-off football for you in a nutshell.

  15. Sticky Texanspublished at 23:13 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

    Charles Davis
Former Dallas Cowboys safety on CBS

You always hear defensive players say the front has to support the back and the back has to support the front. The Texans are doing that now. Tremendous pressure on Herbert up field and at the back the coverage is sticky.

  16. field goal

Field goal - Texanspublished at 23:11 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-10 Houston Texans

The kick is good! Ka'imi Fairbairn knocks it through from 41 yards to stretch Houston's lead in a quite frankly startling turnaround for the home side after such a tough start.

  17. Postpublished at 23:10 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-7 Houston Texans

Robert Woods takes a diving catch for nine yards and that makes the upcoming field goal attempt a lot more comfortable.

And just who is this team in blue? They've done nothing all game yet the last couple of drives look like the greatest show on turf.

  18. Stroud on the run!published at 23:08 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-7 Houston Texans

LA have to punt, and with only seconds left CJ Stroud takes the game into his own hands, well, his own legs really as he goes campering up the middle for a 27-yard gain and just into field goal range.

That's Stroud's longest run of the season - that's just the type of thing you do in the play-offs, laying it all on the line.

It's taken 29 minutes but we finally have the first touchdown of this year's play-offs.

And what a great time for 'our Nico' to strike.

I jest, unfortunately Nico Collins is no relation. Although if he helps Houston reach the Super Bowl I may reach out and claim I'm a long-lost cousin.

  20. Going deep...published at 23:04 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-7 Houston Texans

Justin Herbert has Ladd McConkey open down the field, but he's bumped about in the pocket and when he does have a dart he overthrows his main target and the chance is missed.
